I have no post, no beeps, no video and the only led's showing are the power, charging and wifi ones. The PC powers-up briefly, but then shuts itself down again. I have swapped-out the ram, hdd and ac-adaptor with no luck. I have tried holding down the Fn + Esc keys in order to reset the bios too. I have tried Acer Support, but they were next to useless.

    Can anybody help?

OK, since nobody came backy to me I did some digging for myself. I have now a second Acer Aspire 5542 doing the exact same thing, seems there is a problem with the GPU chip overheating and the only remedy is for you to buy a repair kit on ebay for approx £3.50 to £35.00.

The kit consists of 2 copper shims, thermal grease and some cleansers, the more expensive kit also comes with a thermal gun.

This treatment supposedly fixes this issue.
