Hey everyone, just got a question about the temperatures on my Acer 5553G.
AMD Phenom II x3 Processor (2.1 GHz)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
4GB DDR3 Memory
500GB HDD
I've had my laptop for about a year, and I've actually sent it in for a hard drive replacement (covered by the warranty). I've had the new hard drive with the old components for about 1-2 months now, and I've just noticed the temperature.
During idle, and just basic web browsing, the temperature is about 50-55C. During gaming (just like TF2 or L4D2), it shoots up to about 65C-75C.
Just wondering if this is normal? Should I consider getting a cooling pad?
Just as an addon...
When my computer has just started up, it usually hovers around 37-39C.
CPU Usage jumps around a lot, but the physical memory usage looks like this:
Started Up: 30%
Basic Browsing/Working: 35-45%
Gaming: 50%+
I'm running Win 7, and I have at least 70 processes. Is that normal?

70 seems a lot but it depends on what you have installed, my machine I think has around 49 processes running on start-up.
Have you cleaned the air vent on the machine, it could be clogged up with dust etc. For best results in cleaning the vents, try using a can of compressed air and blowing that into the vents (if you do go down this route, spray the can a little first before using on the machine, just to make sure no moisture is in there).
If this doesn't help, it may be that new thermal paste/pads are needed on the machine. This can be a big job, as it would mean you needing to take the machine apart. This may bring the temperatures down somewhat.
You could also try undervolting the CPU, this can bring the temperatures down somewhat, but you would need to do a search for instructions. -
Thanks for the reply!
I did clean out the vents lately, it did help a bit. I think it brought the temps down 1-2 C, but not by much. I'm just wondering if those temperatures are normal? After doing a lot of Google searches, I'm getting mixed responses: some say it's perfectly normal, others say it's a concern.
