Hi, I had an Acer Aspire 5570-4011 notebook for about 1 and 1/2 year now. About 2 weeks ago I shut it down normally and the next time I tried to start it the power button turns on for a second when I press it but nothing happens (I tried that with and without battery). The battery still charges when i plug the AC power. When I try to turn the PC on when the battery is charging, the charging indicator turns off for couple seconds and then back on. Did anyone experience similar issue? I live in Canada and the acer site is so messy that I can't find their support number.

    Thanks,

    Bido

try removing battery and AC... then hold the power button down for 30 seconds...

then replace AC power cord and try to boot, (without battery in).... see if that helps....

if not how long does the power light and fan stay on before turning off?

just a fraction of a second. if i keep pressing the power button down... it starts flickering continuously. no fan won't run though at all (with or without pressing the button down). you think it is dead?

all of those LEDs should turn on and then the DVD should go off, but the POWER should stay on...

it sounds like something inside has died...
how confortable are you working inside the access pannel?

i have seen a HDD or even a MODEM go bad and prevent a PC from booting...
so the first thing i would do is remove the battery and AC... press the power button to drain any residual power... then remove the access pannel from the bottom...

IS THE LAPTOP UNDER WARRANTY?? IF NOT YOU CAN PROCEED.
if it is under warranty... send it to ACER

if the HDD is under a seperate cover remove it first...
then remove any parts you feel confortable removing...

RAM, WIFI, MODEM, anything you feel confortable enough to remove and KNOW you can replace without problem.

replace 1 stick of RAM and replace the bottom cover....

then turn it over, open lid.. plug power in... and try pressing the power button.

if you get a screen to appear then one of the parts you took out was either bad, or had become unseated causing a short..

i removed the ram and hdd but no sign of life :( i called acer support and they asked me to try a few things I already tried (removing battery... etc) then i was told the mobo is dead and they can replace it for 450. doesn't sound like a good deal.

You can get a new motherboard for under $150 or so.
If you are good at opening notebooks, would advise you to remove the HDD, ODD, Wireless, Modem and the battery, and then boot the notebook. Also try booting with a single RAM module at a time (as advised before). The CPU can also be dead. So, if you are not sure about anything, sell the notebook without the HDD, and buy a new one.

Well I could probably sell you my motherboard for cheap (from the Aspire 3680), but it has got a i940gml chipset and can only max support the Core 2 Solo T1350 (no dual cores). I upgraded my mobo to get dual-core support.
And it also has the headphone port not working (I don't know why). I'll see if I can find something similar for your notebook. I did come across many $150 motherboards for the Aspire 3680/5570/5580. :)

EDIT #1: Something like this. (You can use your motherboard's power board on it)

EDIT #2: I bought my mobo from this guy.

take every thing EXTRA out of the PC that you can..

then put 1 stick of ram back in and try to restart it... if you still don't get the ACER boot screen then you mostlikely have a MOTHERBOAD FAILURE

if you get a ACER BOOT SCREEN and can get into the BIOS... then one of the parts that you have currnetly removed is the problem

if you get an ACER BOOT SCREEN,,, shut down, add one piece of hardware back, and try to reboot...

keep adding hardware until the PC no longer gives you a BOOT SCREEN,,, that last part you put in is usually the bad part.

but if you never get an ACER BOOT SCREEN you likely have a bad motherboard

You can either exchange your Mobo here, and pay for a new one which will be w/warranty.

Or you can buy from this guy and he should ship the mobo to Canada.

OMG ... i was completley distraught. i bought my ACER ASPIRE LAPTOP 6 months ago when i was trveling in italy ,im in austarlia. I use it to run my online game and has all my files.

When i got the black screen o death i first am here to the boards finding nothing i was further distraught..

I AM HAPPY TO TELL YOU MY FRIENDS, that i am typing this on my lil baby :p

    Heres what you do....

    • you need usb disk drive
    • a second computer with internet access (can be work cafe friends place)
    • a file you can download from acer or search yourself called ZGIA32.zip

Format your drive in fat (*note i tried fat as directed in a number of manuals though then tried fat32 and it worked then though suggest you try fat first *shrug)

open zip file and copy 3309.fd and the fla.exe to the usb stick

    rename 3309.fd to ZGIA32.fd

Turn off your laptop making sure that both battery and power supply is plugged in and attach the usb stik/drive.

hold down FN and ESC keys and press the power button, continue to fold FN and ESC keys for 7-10 secs then release - at this point the power light should be blinking and you should still have the black screen of death.

press the power button once while its blinking - this will initiate a bios update * DO NOT PUSH ANYTHING AFTER THIS

After 2 mins the aspire should reboot itself , wait for about 7mins if it dosent before rebooting manually

Took me three attempts as i just wasent doing something right though TA DA!!!!!

and i still have my files. yeah team take this and run, hope you havent spent money yet
