    I recently purchased a Sony DCR-HC52 camcorder and would like to transfer my videos to my computer. Does anyone know if this computer has i.Link built into it as Sony said I would need that program? I am not very computer savvy, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    that sounds like SONY's easy way (and a way to sell you something you may not need....)

    does your camcorder have a USB, firewire of some type of port to allow hooking to a PC??

    if so you just need the proper cable to hook the CAM to the USB or FIREWIRE port (which ever you have available,,, FIREWIRE IS FASTER)

    and the a software program to monitor the camera's input...

    freeware versions of such software is available

    edit::
    CAMCORDER SPECS

    Composite video/audio output, -- can be hooked up to a TV/VCR with RCA input connectors,, or a laptop ADD-ON TUNER CARD with the RCA input connectors
    IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK), ------ can ONLY be hooked up to FIREWIRE CONNECTORS on the LAPTOP
    S-Video output, Control-L ------- can be hooked up to a NEWER TV w/ Svideo input, or a TUNER CARD with the SVIDEO input connector (svideo only does video,, so you still need a line in audio cable w/ RCA FEMALE connectors and a 1.5 mm male connector on the other... (somes with most sound cards)

    My camcorder does have a 4 pin firewire port, but my computer looks like it only has USB ports. Does that mean I can find a cable that will be compatible? Is firewire something that is standard on the computer? If so, I can't seem to find a port for it.

    Thanks!

    do you have a PCMCIA CARDBUS port

    or and EXPRESSCARD slot??

    if so you can buy a card for which ever slot you have that would ADD FIREWIRE SUPPORT..
