I can only imagine how many Acer Orbicam issues have been reported, but here's another one. My Acer Aspire 5610Z displays the message "Acer Orbicam has stopped working" before it even opens, every time i try and use it. I've heard of this happening alot, and even tried downloading the updated drivers for it, nothing seems to work. If anyone can report the specific process by which i can correct this problem for MY model Acer, that would be terrific.

    Thanks.

my only suggestion involves removing the plastic bezel covering the sides of the LCD....

remove the 4 rubber pads at the corners... remove the screws... remove the entire plastic cover.

un hook the ribbon/wire from the camera, then shut down the system...
next reboot the system... then when everything is loaded,,, reconnect the wires while the system is running.... the wires connect to a USB header on the motherboard.. so there is very little danger in doing this,, and by plugging the cable up while the system is running is the only way i've seen to FORCE the camera to be redetected.... like when you plug in any other USB device,, windows should show a message saying that new hardware was found... and it should load the drivers from the ones already in the system..

i know it's a sloppy fix,, but short of a factory re-install that is the best method i've read about...

I did exactly as you said, but when i reconnected the camera...it was detected (which it was before) but i still have the same problem. It's not that the computer is not detecting the camera, it is that the driver is out of date from what i've read. I've tried updating them and gottem PROGRESS (meaning, instead of displaying the error message prior to the UI opening, the UI opens for a second, then defaults.) But no success still.

hmmm... have you tried other camera software i've heard that some people can use the camera with MSN MESSANGER even though the ACER software causes problems,,, i kind of wish i had a camera so i could test this problem... it seems to be rather common...

maybe i can find a way to install one in my 5315 :D

Hahaha if you figure out how to install one, hit me up and give me the run down. If i could find another software set to just run the already working hardware...that'd be awesome...especially seeing as how the Orbicam only takes still shots, and no videos. :(
