So I recieved this laptop for christmas and it came with Vista Home Premium. I'm not a huge fan of Vista so earlier today I installed Windows XP Home and am now suffering some drive issues.

I format the drive, delete the two partitions and leave the eRecovery partition alone, then I go ahead and install Windows XP. Everything is fine and dandy up until I install drivers.

    Things that work:

    Touchpad
    WiFi

I've installed the Windows XP drivers for the motherboard found on the Acer website and the graphics card is still not recognised, none of the USB ports are working and it's going rather pear-shaped. :(

Using the Intel Chipset Utility I have discovered that the motherboard is named as follows:

"Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Chipsets or Intel(R) 945GT Express Chipset"

I tried installing the drivers for those chipsets but it still doesn't work. I have a Nvidia 7300 - The one with 400mb "turbocache".

Take a look at the screenshot below and please, please, help me find a solution.

Manually update the drivers. D/L the zipped files, expanding them to a temp folder. From your Device Manager window, right click the device, click update driver, and then browse to the folder that you unzipped the file, if should find the .inf file you need for the driver update.

I recently downgraded my 5630 to Windows XP Professional, and completely erased the hard drive before I installed XP Pro. Prior to erasing the drive, I made a complete list of all the drivers I needed for the downgrade from Vista (Home Premium) to XP and downloaded them - saved to a CD labeled 5630-XP...

The only issue (if one wishes to refer to it as such...) was with the Acer OrbiCam. I had to play around with it to get it (finally...) working, but it finally did...

XP Professional works perfectly in othe 5630, with the processor and RAM it has, it hauls the mail nicely!

My TIP is if anyone is going to do this downgrade, completely erase the drive first. I say this because several people I've talked to who've also downgraded have tried various shortcuts and ran into all kinds of issues with downgrading...
