I'm considering buying a 5633WLMi but there are some details about the DVD which I can't find in the product description -

    1. The DVD drive is described as "DVD±RW Super Multi" - does this support DVD-RAM as well as all DVD±R and DVD±RW.

    2. Does it support Dual Layer.

    3. Does the PC come with software to write data files to the DVD (for instance, something like Nero Express and/or InCD). If not, what do people recommend at minimum extra cost. There appears to be software included for writing videos and/or music files to DVD, but I can't find any reference to writing data or for disc copying (my own data CDs/DVDs, not copy protected movies).

mine did not come with any software, there is 'back up' software but it is useless for data.

DVD-ram??? have no idea. mine does and it s a 'super multi slot loaded'

    yes it supports dual layer

nero i would say is the best, it can make data cds, music, mp3 cd's or DVDs, exact copies etc.

It should support DVD-RAM (see below). The usual software bundled with the system is NTI's CD and DVD Maker 7, before using that I was used to Nero, but NTI isn't bad, very simple user interface.

The exact specs for the DVD Super-Multi Drive are-

    Read: 24x CD-RW, 24x CD-Rom, 24x CD-R; 8x DVD+R, 8x DVD-R, 8x DVD-Rom, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 3x DVD-RAM, 2.4x DVD+R (DL),

    Write: 24x CD-R, 4x CD-RW, 8x DVD+R, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 3x DVD-RAM, 2.4x DVD+R (DL).

    Thanks Yuio & Aleksandr

Your replies and a bit more trawling have satisfied me that the DVD utilities I need are bundled with the PC.
