This is my first post on this site. I just wanted to know how many people would upgrade from Win XP to Window Vista on the Acer Aspire 5672? I was looking a Vista specs today and I started to think would it ever be a good idea to upgrade or just buy a new laptop?

Welcome to NBR, Viper775!
Those who own a 5672 would probably upgrade from XP to Vista. I don't see why not. I ran the tool that Microsoft realeased which would test what version of Vista the system is supposedly capable of running. It's technically capable of running the Vista Premium, which if my memory serves me right is the highest Vista Standard.
I myself own a 5672 and if I keep it,I'd defenitely upgrade it to Vista, but then again I might get rid of it(I have this kind of "fever" where I don't want any gadget with me for more than 6 months lol).
Enjoy your stay here, and I hope you have a nice one -

I'd say it depends on when you plan on upgrading and what you are upgrading for. If you wait until the major bugs are worked out (yea like that'll ever happen on a Windows OS), basically 6 months, then upgrading on your current laptop would make sense. If, however, you are upgrading so that you're laptop will be more future-proof, it would make more sense getting a newer laptop with a DX10 card (ignore the Intel Integrated graphics claim that it has DX10 support) and a better chip (Core 2 or Turion X2 K8L). Honestly, these few years will be transitional years as the computing industry moves into multi-core/64-bit processing. I believe Intel and AMD have quad-cores slated to be released in their server lineups next year with more publicly available quad-cores in 08.

Vista runs fine on the 5672. All of the included hardware works great, although Bluetooth and sound do not work automatically. (You need to change something in Device Manager to get Bluetooth working and download the sound drivers yourself.) Otherwise, Vista had drivers for most hardware on the DVD and needed a few more drivers from Windows Update. The Mobililty X1400 does fine.
Remember, 64-bit has little practial, real-world benefits for the typical end user and probably won't for at least 3 years. And quad-core is excessive for the typical end user as well (as is dual core).
You won't need to upgrade in a year if you want to run Vista, but you could.
Performance is great; it's just as responsive (if not more responsive) than Windows XP. -
Thanks so much. -

How about those sound drivers? Where did you get those for Vista? I know Acer has drivers for XP, but I couldn't find anything for Vista, and I'm still debating whether or not to install the Beta.
Also, anyone tried running HL2 on Vista? ANd in general, how are the Beta Catalyst drivers holding up? -

Ah you got them from Realtek itself. Thanks man, I'll report back (with numerous problems, I'm sure) once Vista's up and running =)

do any of you buttons work in vista? like the wifi and bluetooth buttons as well as the volumn control and all??
when i press the volumne control up and down i can see it on the screen but it doesnt seem to control the actual volumn
i also wanted to ask what type of poer managment software u r using?? vista seems to suck alot of battery and sometimes sitting in class i need it to run longer. any ideas??
thanks -
Did any of you guys get Wireless running? It detects the 3945abg and my wireless connection, but it doesn't connect to the net. Most of the time the status is "local only". Any tips/suggestions?

The buttons work fine in Vista.
If you are using your laptop for production use, I recommend running a production operating system like Windows XP. -
what software did you use to get them to work?? i have the launch manager installed. does your volumn control work on the side as well sa the mute button (fn f8)
can you help me please
thanks

I did not use any software. The mute and volume buttons generate the standard keyboard event codes to do so and work fine in all operating systems to support them.
I do not have that defective "Launch Manager" installed and the volume keys and mute keys work fine, as do the Bluetooth and wifi controls. -
When you only install the Realtek drivers for Vista you can use the control buttons for audio, internet and mail. The P & E are useless. When you install Lanchm (XP) from Acer you can't use the audio buttons, but the rest seem to work ...... Beta ..... Waiting for Acer to deliver tools 4 Vista

Based on my experience I wouldn´t advice to upgrage to Vista atleast the first year after it has been released. It doesn´t offer anything that much better compared to XP and it´s most likely you will have more problems with it than XP.
