Will XP Pro x64 edition work with/benefit my experience on this laptop?

I have no idea if this lappy is even 64 bit enabled...

the core duo is a 32-bit processor so it won't be compatible, however, i believe that with a bios update, the 5672 will support the new core 2duos which are 64-bit

xp x64 edition is terrible. theres a lot of compatibility issues with drivers. you are better off using regular xp.

I've been running WinXP Pro x64 edition on my desktop for about 10 months now and, quite frankly, I haven't really had any issues. At the beginning there were only a couple of programs/applications/drivers written specifically for the x64 platform, but things have really changed now. Also, I've not had any problems using normal 32 bit applications on the 64 bit platform.

Thats correct "desktop". you guys always have it easy. But when it comes to laptops, drivers are limited because only the ones that are on your manufacturers website will work smoothly and there isnt really much drivers for notebooks that are solidly 64bit compatible (well not for windows machines).

I am not trying to start an arguement so I hope you dont take any offense.

Well, just for the record, the ONLY dirvers from Acer that I do use are the ones for the card reader. All the other drivers are either from the respective manufacturer or from '3rd party' sites.
Welll, there are a couple of sites that you can check out and see if they have the appropriate x64 driver fr your hardware, like:
    http://developer.amd.com/drivers.aspx
    http://www.planetamd64.com/
You can also check out the website of the manufacturer for your particular component and see if they have x64 drivers.
None take, and none intended. :)
