My 5720z (budget version) has a GL960 mobo chipset, intel t2310 cpu, 2GBs of ram (w/ 2GB cap), and an integrated gpu.
Is it feasible to replace the t2310 for either a t4400 or t4500? Will there be a significant speed increase from a entire gigahert? How about a difference in temperature?
The t2310 has the socket P, 478 pin, 1.38x1.38 dimensions, and it produces 35 watts. Both the t4400 and t4500 have the same specs.
Here are some specs on t2310 from cpu-world.com

You can go up to Core2Duo T7250 I think, however read through this thread and find out more information.

I have gone from Pentium dual core to C2D in my Socket M laptop, works fine. -
You cam upgrade up to T9500, or X9000 with ThrottleStop (X9000 by default will not SpeedStep correctly, you'll need ThrottleStop to fix it).
BTW, all 5720s come with GM/PM965; GL960 is only used for the 5315. So, 4GB RAM should not be an issue.
@ellalan: The 5720Z is Socket P, not Socket M. -
Anyway, the t4500 is a socket P and bus speed of 800 mhz. My t2310 is a socket P but has 500 mhz bus speed. The bus speed is the only difference between the two. Is the t4500 compatible for an upgrade? Thanks -
However, I would spend £100 on a ssd than on a cpu for performance improvement. -
@ellanlan
CommanderWolf's thread suggests to upgrade to a cpu that matches the bus speed of the mobo chipset. What do you think? -
In addition to what I said .NetRolller has already recommended a 800FSB CPU (T9500) so I guess you will have no problem in upgrading but I don't know how much benefit you would gain from a Pentium dual core to another Pentium dual core cpu.

I think CPU-Z just uses the bus clock to distinguish GL960 from GM965. If the bus clock is 533MHz, it prints GL960, otherwise GM965. (I seem to remember that it reported my 5720ZG, a PM965 machine, as "PL960" - a nonexistent chipset - when I plugged in a 533MHz FSB CPU.)
BTW, the discrete GPU version is the 5720 G/ZG. -
Done some reading and this laptop is so limited in upgrades. The t2410 is clocked at @ 2.0 ghz but its a $60 cpu on ebay and matches the FSB on the mobo chipset. Not really worth upgrading.
So pretty much the only worthwhile upgrade that will produce noticeable speeds is an SSD.
Edit: Btw, there were four different 5720 versions that Acer made. The z versions are known for being the budget (lower end) versions. I got the lowest end one! These are the official specs for the 5720z, https://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/0000/acer/aspire5720z/aspire5720zsp2.shtml
1. 5720
2. 5720z
3. 5720G
4. 5720GZ -
Still, no 5720 comes with a GL960 chipset - GL960 is only used for the 5315, which has the same motherboard as the 5720.
Upgrades up to T9500 are possible. -
hi i just got the t4400 cpu can it work on my acer aspire 5720z
