    Hi;

    Got a strange one.

Got an Acer 5736Z running Win7 x64. Wireless card installed is Broadcom 802.11n - version 5.100.249.2

There seems to be some issues whilst connecting with the wireless. It will randomly lose connection, and run extremely slow. At first I thought it was my router messing up, but I have 3 other devices (2 iphones and a PS3) which are able to use the wireless signal fine and they're not experiencing any dropouts. It will come online, say connected, then it will disconnect on it's own. Then it will reconnect with "limited access".

    I tried the basics:
Restarting the router, the laptop, reconnecting the wireless connection, wireless off/on.

I started to read up on it, and seen there may be an IP conflict if multiple devices are used [the laptop is on .5] I tried the old /release and /renew - this hasn't worked either.
When it has disconnected, I won't be able to ping the router, receiving errors of Destination Host unreachable and Ping Failed.

I tried to update the driver from within device manager which stated it was up to date. Thought it might be corrupted somehow, so I downloaded the latest from the Acer website. There's two listed - one is Atheron (i think that was the name) and the other being Broadcom.
Downloading it, it started out at 300kb/s and was running fine, then it dropped to 3kb/s and slugged along, disconnected my wireless, reconnected and picked back up again.

Eventually downloaded and reinstalled, same issue .

Thought that maybe it's something to do with the anti-virus (didn't think this would apply as it's been working fine until last few days). I removed AVG which was installed, same issue. Firewall is turned on, tried it turned off, same issue.

I was using the wireless for around 45 minutes yesterday before it cut out on me, and then after around an hour, it was working fine, and then happened again.

Please note, it's not a ISP issue as the other devices aren't really using the connection. But whilst my laptop was disconnecting/reconnecting multiple times, my iPhone and PS3 could get internet access with no problems.

Last thing I read was resetting the winsock but haven't had a chance and ideally I don't want to go into the registry.

Has anybody got any ideas what I can do with this?

Try this driver and get back to us.

I'm gonna leave this thread here for a day or two and then move it to networking section to give it a different set of eyes.

    Thanks for info.

I won't be able to try this until Saturday - I'll post an update then if this has worked or not.

    Bit of a late reply.

The driver you suggested made no difference. Reinstalled the original driver from Acer again, and it seems to be working better now. No dropouts or anything. Not too sure what changed... but, at least it's working.

    Cheers
