I have a Creative Inspire 5200 5.1 surround sound speaker set that I want to use with my Acer Aspire 5738 laptop. It works fine with my desktop but when I connect it to the laptop, two of the speakers do not produce any sound. I went through the Quick setup guide and the general user manual that I downloaded from the Acer website, but could not find detailed info on which pin (front, back, centre+subwoofer) goes where. Can someone here point me to the documentation or otherwise help me out.

    Thanks.

I even managed to find a service manual that is 232 pages long, but no info on a simple pin config. I guess only users with experience will be able to answer this.

I'm not an expert, and maybe this is a stupid reply, but my understanding was that surround sound on a desktop was normally via separate jacks into the soundcard output sockets, but on laptops, which don't have enough jacks, you are meant to feed the digital output (spdif?) via a suitable amplifier with an digital input.

One of the jack sockets often doubles as a digital output. I'd be interested to learn whether I'm right about this.
