Acer Aspire 5738G Bios Mod request to accept Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 Quad Core

Hello,

I recently purchased 2 processors to try out on my Aspire 5738G, 8GB RAM, motherboard JV-50 MV, Chipset Intel GM45/47, BIOS version 1.34 (Also tried other versions and the VT MOD that can be found in this forum). I checked before purchasing the CPU's that they would be compatible with chipset. The Intel Q9100 2 cores at 3.06 MhZ and an Intel QX9300 with 4 cores at 2.5 MhZ. The Q9100 works great but the QX9300 not so much. It is recognized by the bios, I am able to enter bios but if i try to boot, right after the main boot screen where it shows CPU, memory, etc., CPU = 36 processors 4 cores each?? When it should load operating system it just goes blank and reboots. Over and over. I tried booting from other sources like USB sticks and other HDD's to no avail. I believe the Bios is not recognizing it correctly because the seller said the CPU was tested and worked. It also has a tested marking on it just like the Q9100. I would really love to get a quad running on this machine. Is there a way to MOD the Bios to recognize this CPU? Thanks!

 

Maybe I`m wrong, but first of all, you should check, if you have first or second revision of your chipset. There was a problem with first revision - it supports Quads, but this support is just not activated by Intel. On second revision they activated this feature. In 5739G thread this issue was discussed. I think, that in other threads with Core 2 Duo laptops, like DELL or MSI, it was discussed too. You should search for it. Another way to check, if your chipset support feature is activated by the factory is to check official service manual for your laptop. If in the list of OEM parts Quads, like Q9000, are mentioned, than, there is a high probability, that you have second revision of chipset.

This was the first. Second, do you think you have all supply lines on the motherboard for Quad processor? For example, on my 5739G, I need to make a hardware modifications with soldering additional wires, resistors and so on in order to activate full supply for quad. Check this.

That was the second. Third, did you checked your BIOS for QX9300 microcode?

 

Thank you for your response, propolkin! think the Q series is not listed, it was the first revision of this chipset. I dont know how to check the bios for microcode. Unfortunately, a cap busted on my mobo shortly after I posted this message. I think it could be replaced. I will change it when I have the time and post the results afterwards.
