    Hello!
I have Acer Aspire 5738ZG notebook and I'm confused about the upgrades and stuff. I would be very, very thankful if someone could tell me what can be upgraded.
P.S. I've taken it apart several times and put it back and it's still working :D , so if you need inside pictures for more details then I can do it again (I guess). lol

    Please?...anyone? T_T

It's DDR2- you could upgrade it but there's probably no point in doing so.

CPU could use upgrading- the one you have is rather slow compared to some C2D units.
Also obvious thing that improves general responsiveness is a new HDD- SSD would be an overkill for an older laptop but a nice 7200rpm drive would be a good idea.
Other than that you can upgrade your wireless card if you need it for some reason- "Acer Nplify™802.11b/g/Draft-N" means nothing and Atheros alone is still not enough but if you have no issues there's probably no need to change that piece of hardware.

Two things that I'd change if I were to do so- new HDD and CPU.

I didn't get what you were trying to say about ram lol. I currently have 2x2GB DDR2 ram, but I don't understand what's the max and why does Crucial system scanner says I can get DDR3? Also when I was buying this laptop the shop said I can get up to 8 GB ram with two SODIMM 4GB modules.
    Intel specification about chipset
Does it means I can have DDR2 or either DDR3 RAM if I want to?
Ok so HDD I was planning to upgrade and got no confusion about that, but what about CPU? Do I just search for C2D that's made for my chipset and has same temperature or should I be looking at something else too?
What about video card? - I know that people keep saying their integrated and stuff, but I want to see it for myself if it's integrated or not - could you maybe tell me what to look at when I open my laptop again? Since I'm planning on changing the thermal paste and cut those holes where they're supposed to be.
About wireless: it's working fine, but I don't use it since it can't offer reliable speed and latency when you have 200 Mbps or more internet connection at home.

Chipset supports DDR2 and DDR3 in the same way it supports ATA and SATA but you can get only the one that manufacturer chose to- Acer installed DDR2 modules and you have to stick to those.
These are not interchangeable- DDR3 module will not fit into DDR2 slot.

As for the CPU- it has to be mobile Penryn with equal or lower TDP.
5738 series uses different CPUs among those T6400, T6600, P7450 (source: service manual).

Okay then it means I can upgrade to this?
    CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9900 (6M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) Price: $240~
RAM: Corsair 8GB Dual Channel DDR2 SODIMM Memory Kit (VS8GSDSKIT800D2) Price: $135~
    HDD: Hitachi Travelstar 7K750 (750GB, 7200RPM) Price: $105~
Total upgrade price: $480~ (Which is 2/3 of my laptop price, lol)
If I can upgrade to all that then the only problem would be the video card... anyone care to share info on what it looks like inside of a laptop if I have integrated video or not?

I doubt T9900 would work- it's most likely not supported by BIOS and if I rememberer correctly these tend not to work in more cases than they do. I'm not sure about that though so maybe someone will chime in and comment on this.
As for GPU it is integrated- there's no MXM module and no way to upgrade.

I'm not sure if you're not overdoing it- maybe it would be better to buy a new unit rather than spend $500 on an old one especially that you can't upgrade GPU.
