    Hi all,

I recently bought the Acer Aspire 5738z. I'm pretty satisfied with the specs (LED-backlit LCD, T4200 CPU, 4gigs of DDR3), but there's one thing that bothers me, I can hear the fan going faster when the multiplier is at 10x (full speed @ 2ghz) and it doesn't slow down even if speedstep is enabled and the multiplier is set back to 6x (idle - no applications are processing and the CPU load is around 0%). The fan is quite noisy IMO so it disturbs me quite a bit when i'm studying with it.

I haven't found any applications to manually control the fan either (Speedfan is what I use on desktops, but it doesn't work on this). Is this a normal behavior? And should the fan be this noisy?

Thank you and have a great day

I have two Acer 5738g's and have a similar problem with both. Yet, others with the same laptop have remarked how quiet it is with the fan only coming on during gaming / CPU intensive tasks.

So, I think maybe it could be BIOS related. I think the G and Z models both use the same BIOS. What version do you have ? I have 1.16, but may try downgrading to 1.13, which is available on the Acer website, to see if there is an improvement.
