Hi, so I recently found my old broken Acer Aspire 5738z laptop. I would really like to fix it. It won't boot, even to the BIOS. You turn it on, the fans start, and the hard drive spins, the power button is on, but there is a black screen and nothing happens. After about 8 seconds, it restarts, and the same happens again, only it remains on after 8 seconds.

I hear if you download the BIOS from the Acer website and boot it from a USB stick, that can fix this, how do I do that? I have the BIOS files from the website and a USB stick, but how do I get it to boot onto the laptop?

Nothing to do with BIOS. BIOS is nor an operating system that you might need to reinstall once in a while- it looks more like a hardware failure.

See this recent thread for reference (although sadly not for a solution).
