I want to purchase this monitor:

    PA271W-BK-SV, 27 Widescreen Color-Critical Desktop Monitor w SpectraViewII - Highlights & Specifications | NEC Display Solutions

but am unsure if I can connect it to my system. I have an Acer Aspire 5740-6491 . Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like I'd have to use the HDMI output. Not sure if it will work though.

All of a sudden I'm not sure whether the system has an HDMI port or a Displayport. I'll have to look at home.

OK. It's HDMI. I can't find whether it would support the resolution though.

You'd have to use HDMI-to-DVI cable.
HDMI 1.3 is limited to 1920x1200 with 36 and 48 bits per pixel though so it may be a problem.

Also check AMD website for HD5650- lists FullHD for HDMI too.

    Thanks for merging those posts.

This is somewhat of a bummer though.
