The computer displays no evidence that it is receiving power. The power brick LED is lit, but when the jack is inserted in the laptop, the blue power LED does not light. The computer also does not turn on when a charged battery is inserted.
Last night I shut down my computer, as normal. Everything was fine. There was no battery inside, using AC power. Shut it down, pulled out the jack from the socket, and went to sleep. The next morning, plugged in the jack, and no blue light. Tried using the battery (it's fully charged). Didn't start.
Opened the laptop, and nothing looks especially out of the ordinary/burned.
I have no real idea as to what is the problem, nor if the problem is repairable. Does anyone happen to have any ideas? I don't need to be told that because it's a laptop and a motherboard problem, that it's essentially over and I'll need a new mobo or computer. Please keep the responses either regarding diagnostics/ways to diagnose the problem, or solutions.
Thanks a lot.

Try doing an Fn+Esc BIOS recovery. On my 5720G, the same symptoms appeared after an interrupted BIOS flash - an Fn+Esc recovery fixed it.
If that doesn't help, try disconnecting everything from the motherboard (except the power socket and the LEDs), and check if you get a power light - if it works, you have a short in one of the disconnected components. -
The computer doesn't POST.
I had done as you suggested, and removed everything from the motherboard, and plugged in the charger. No light on the mobo was visible. As stated, the motherboard appears to not be receiving power.
If the battery was working, and the charger not, I would assume the power was with the jack. The problem is that no sort of power seems to be affecting the mobo, nither from the battery or charger.
I must assume that I have a short somewhere on my mobo, though I don't know how the short could have occurred. Are there any ways I could go about trying to identify where this short is, or is it a hopeless case? -
This is the same thing happened to my acer aspire 5740G, I've called the store where I bought it & I've sent back to them to sent to acer company for repair. After 15 days I've got my my laptop back. they've changed motherboard and hard drive.
