HDMI to DVI would be better. Both are pretty much identical (standards are similar) and both are digital so quality would be better.

 

i still have problem witch copy files beetween partition ( i have 1 disc 500GB hitachi-2 partitions : C: 250GB and i have very D: 250GB), i have very low speed when copying files between and everything freez, so - mayby remove D partition and connect to C: ? One big partition is better (faster) than 2 smaller? Disk is only from win7, programs, games... -

 

It won't be any faster as long as it's being copied withing the same physical drive.

 

so, when i copy witch one partition (for example c is very faster, only when copy beetween partition (yes, the same disc).

 

Copying should take exactly the same regardless of if it's between partitions or within one.
Moving a file within one partition is almost instantaneous while it takes as much time as copying when you're doing it between partitions.

In case anyone is wondering Far Cry 3 works fine on medium details at least performance-wise.

I don't have FRAPS installed so I can't give you an exact figure but it's perfectly smooth even during firefights.

I do have issues though- the game crashes as a result of a GPU recovering from a freeze. It might be an issue with drivers (Cats 12.11 beta11) or with OC.
I used to run all games at 670/900 and had no issues- I ran Facr Cry 3 at 660/900 and it still happens.

I will do some more testing (also known as playing) and will get back yo you on that.

So far I have to say I'm astonished- Hitman Absolution and Far Cry 3 running perfectly fine with medium details on an almost three years old machine.

 

No you are not alone. I've had several experiences where I cannot wake the laptop from sleep and am forced to hold down the power button to force reboot it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Overall I've enjoyed the change and visuals with windows 8 but crashes like previously mentioned are annoying but I'm glad they happen to people who clean installed too because I simply upgraded over 7 and thus I thought that's why I experienced the lockups.

I've also noticed after booting, task manager shows disk usage at 100% and the computer hangs until it drops back down. What could fix this? More ram, an ssd?

 

Since my last post here, I've noticed something interesting - it seems that the laptop did not failed to wake from sleep - what actually happened is that for some reason it just wasn't turning on the screen, I figured this when after few apparent wake up failures I've pressed couple of keys on keyboard and the display lit up just lake that, as if nothing happened.

Well anyway lets start off with my new laptop.
It's a HP pavilion m6-1054eo (i5-3210,amd 7670m 2gb,8gb RAM...)
Well anyway,

A few days ago i wanted to watch the latest greys anatomy episode for the fifth time,which i have downloaded (mp4)
And when i played it,it had a slight red tint to it.
And that red tint is so annoying.The colours arent natural.
I'm using WMP...
So after hours of surfing the web,downloading codecs,stuffz...
I didn't fix it,but i came to a discovery.
When i go to video settings in WMP and try to change them,nothing happens. And yes theyre turned on.
Well then i tried playing it in VLC player and it played perfectly.
But i don't want to use VLC player The interface is just horrible.
And when you pause the video it kind of lags and urrgh. Just horrible.

Well please help me. pleasepleaseplease.

I also had period where i just liked WMP.
I upgraded it to WMP11 and used this codec pack:

However it was not stable enaught and it still had lack in rare codecs. So i end up using VLC everytime WMP failed until i gave up on it.

VLC is really good player and if it's only the skin you dislike then there is thousand of skins for VLC including almost exact clone of WMP.

guys i'm getting a lot of freezing for 5 -20 sec recently with browsing on chrome ( just freezing without BSOD )

i'm using W8 with latest drivers

i think its IO problem maybe the HDD dying

any thought

Can i use rw everything to change the fan speed on my new hp like i did before on my acer?
For some reason it never goes to 100% fan speed by itself when playing gta 4 and reaches 60-65 degrees.

I tried speedfan-nothing happens (Maybe i just didnt set it up correctly but i cant bother anymore it's complicated)
The bios has nothing except ''fixed fan speed: enable/disable''

So yeah.

I belie if you manage to reach higher temps your fan will reach the maximum rpm's. 60-65 degrees is not a high temp while playing.

 

That's true- 65*C is actually a low temp.

 

65*C on a laptop while gaming?Dude put some clothes on that laptop,its going to freeze to death.

I bought an ACER ASPIRE 5740G in about 3 years ago , and i didn´t had any kind of problems but i upgdate yesterday the BIOS Phoenix to 1.16 and it failed or corrupted i will recovery the black screen on boot but now i can´t do nothing .

I don´t see any Service Manual for this portable computer 5740G on the net.

I have a Crisis Utility but i copy to my pen USB the files BIOS.WPH, Minidos.SYS and PHLASH16.exe and press down fn+esc+power keys in a few minutes but no success.

I have the Aspire 5740 service manual but i created a Bios file of acer site 1.16 a file XXXXXXX.FD with the crisis disk 3 files BIOS.WPH, PHLASH16 and MINIDOS.SYS and JV50116.FD, and i press down the fn+ esc + power on bottons with no battery included, but i don´t have luck.

I downloaded this crisis disk 1.22, and whitch files can i put in pen USB stick?

It crash with win7 failed on Bios 1.16 update 1.10 to 1.16 the 1.22 or 1.28 not work to me i guess. How can i solve this problem, the screen is always black ?

 

Check if you've followed instructions outlined here when creating crisis disk and executing recovery.

Its a little confuse to me i need to create a crisis disk into a pen usb kingston 4GB with the BIOS file need to be renamed to BIOS.WPH?

The BIOS CMOS full reset clean with a jumper to default mode ou remove the internal motherboard battery will solve this failed corruptive situation?

 

Is there any way to edit the BIOS ? I want to change the the on and off temp of the first speed of the fan ?

If BIOS recovery didn't work that is probably your only option although I would advise you tried with different thumb-drives and checking if you've been carefully following directions. Most of the time it's some minor glitch that prevents recovery form running- not the fact that it is impossible to do.

 

I have a pen USB kingston 4GB not less than 2GB, i can try with a CDR ou DVDR disk and put the crisis disk and the file BIOS into it JTAG .

Well if you can't recover it you should find a place where they can program any given BIOS on a chip and do the desoldiering/soldiering thing for you.
One of us had to do that earlier in the thread but that would be very hard to find at this point.

Anyway- even if you can't recover it it shouldn't be an expensive fix since you're not replacing the mobo. Just the BIOS chip.

 

What is the price of a new motherboard JV50-CP ou BIOS chip flash rom to substitute?I can´t imagine a soft flash bios update failed installation in win7 damaged the board, i will try again with another pen 2gb max.

Yeah- I have but I can't see any significant difference.

Still I see no issues either so it's probably a worthy upgrade.

BTW Assassin's Creed III is unplayable- it lags like hell and it's not because of the GPU. The game is not optimized at all- as console ports go it's far worse than GTA IV.
It's also rather boring, repetitive and moving action to America was a bad move. I gave up on that game- I already wasted money and I'm not willing to waste time...

 

So I installed the new 13.1 ati driver today...did a test with 3DMark11 ...did not see improvement....
My windows media player would not play avi files anymore...every time I try to play an avi video I got the message that media player stopped working and needed to close...after trying all kind of fixes....got tired of it and went back to cat 12.6....everything back to normal again.
Anyone else had this kind of problem?


by the way...the flickering screen after restore to default clocks from overclocking still isn't fixed. (with AMD GPU Clock tool)

 

I'm guessing Media Player problem is related to DXVA hardware acceleration done by the GPU although mine works fine (I use MP Classic so I tested only a few files in WMP to make sure)

GPU-overclocking-flickering-thingy is here to stay I'm afraid.

 

Has to be a 2gb or smaller USB pen guide says. Get one and also try formatting it a fat/fat16 not fat 32.

Had same issue on other laptops.

I formatted my pen USB to FAT32 and 4GB, i will try FAT format and in a thumb drive 1GB ou 2GB.

 

I have found the best method to overclock our beloved ATI 5650 without flickering even on the latest drivers....

Hey guys,

I sent in my laptop to Acer for warranty repairs. They weren't able to find parts and are still looking but want to replace my laptop if they're unable to find parts. I've bee out of the laptop business for 2 years and don't know how the Acer 5740 stacks against today's competition. Can anyone give me a few Acer models or processor/gpus that are similar to that of the 5740 so I don't get a lesser model in terms of performance?

It's hard to guess what they might offer you- it may not be something that is currently produced either.

It would be better if you just posted their offer here when they make it. Acer has made so many notebooks over the last three years that it's hard to come up with a list.

Ok...I installed cat 13.1 again and I fixed the problem with the media player by installing the media player codec pack 4.2.4....it's really great! I can open pretty much all movie files with media player...even flv videos. I really like that.

AMD GPU Clock Tool + SetFSB works like a charm with the 5470. :thumbsup:

 

spi, A can of setfsb more? Interested in the process raising the frequency. I was able to pick up the bus speed to 155, but the system was acting unstable blue screen.

 

i don't OC , but i think the voltage is not enough so u have to lower the OC a bit until u find stable one
