Hi, Downloads, sorry I didn't answer that earlier.
In the other side there are two things, a Mitrastar router and an ONT. I suppose Mitrastar is rebranding for the real maker of the router, but I'm not sure. Model: HGW-2501GN-R2. The router is linked to the ONT through a CAT5e ethernet cable.
Anyhow, I updated the Lan driver downloading a new version from Broadcom, v.15.6.0.10 and it seems to be working fine now, although the 1.0 Gbps it's still not showing. I left it in "automatic".
Thanks![]()

Hi everyone,
I've just bought my first surround sound system and have it all hooked up -- only to find that I am having problems with getting audio from the PC through Realtek Digital Output and into the receiver and speakers.
Right now, I hook up an HDMI cord from the Aspire to a Denon ACRS500BT receiver, manual at http://manuals.denon.com/AVRS500BT/NA/EN/, and from that receiver to the TV.
I searched through this forum and read what I could find on the necessity of using Realtek; I updated my drivers to 6.0.1.7541. I made Realtek my default through Control Panel --> Sound. When I play music, I can see the volume levels rising and falling in the both the Sound box and Volume control -- but there is no sound coming out of the speakers connected to the receiver.
I know that my receivers can take Dolby Digital and from what I've read Realtek converts PC audio into Dolby Digital through Dolby Digital Live and then outputs it through the HDMI. But right now I only get sound if I use "AMD HDMI Output."
What am I missing? -
Hi deathbymonty
I'm not a expert at these things but I now something for Shure ;
HDMI have the best audio quality , in our case (AMD HD 5000 series), It Will even support HD audio-streams.
If you want to use Realtec digital out you have to plug in a spdif-cable ( optical ) in line-out and connect it to optical-in on your Denon, also setting the control center to Realtec digital out.
I think Dolby Digital Live is a surround emulation mode ( virtual surround sound, see your laptop speakers) to let stereo speakers sounds "surround", your Denon can do it better and in more flavors , so I will go for HDMI if I where you, I use it with my Denon AVR 4810 and don't have to switch if I want to watch a movie.Last edited: Aug 8, 2015 -
Just a heads up on HDMI sound. This notebook (sort of) has two sound-cards. One is the two channel Realtek but there is also another Realtek audio chip used by AMD on their HD5xxx series.
So if you are using HDMI output you are using a 7.1 Realtek audio that is part of AMD card, when you are using normal audio connector you are using two channel Realtek on the motherboard.
So HDMI is in fact a better option. Another note - don't use HDMI audio driver that comes with AMD drivers. Go to Realtek website and download drivers for "ATI HDMI Audio Device". These always work better for some reason. -
I'm agree that there are two soundcards but not Shure if the " two channel Realtec " is not capable for playing multichannel output through digital out (RAW) Dolby or DTS, never tried and I Think also you must have a special optical cable for it.
Never had problems with AMD HDMI drivers, but I will try the Realtec drivers.
Anyone try to go to windows 10 ?
By the way, time to replace my power connector, have to start up again 4 times to type this message.Last edited: Aug 8, 2015 -
ATM. I'm on Win10Pro. Can't get HDMI to work. Otherwise seems to be slightly more efficient than Win7Pro. In my case OCZ ARC 100 monitoring software caused 1min lag ( no respond from pc) while start up.

Maybe a stupid answer, but when I first want to use my HDMI on W7, it also don't work.
I have to set in configuration center, energy options "do nothing when closing lid" instead of "go to sleepmode if closing lid".
When I close the lid after I changed it, computer seeing no monitor and automatic change to HDMI,
from that moment on it always work, don't have to close it.Last edited: Aug 8, 2015 -

Also touch-pad scrolling does not work - I'm looking for a different driver. Other than that it seems to be OK.
EDIT: Scrolling is fine now that I updated driver.Last edited: Aug 15, 2015 -
Found somewhere here regedit fix for brightness on Win 8.1 and it does the trick in Win10. But I cannot find it now.

@unifilek
Thank you. I've managed to find it as well based on your tip - it works fine!
Now all I need to to is get rid of this annoying information that I have some useless crap disabled (Security Center and something else). Windows 7 used to nag about it as well until I got rod of it - not I have to figure out how to do it in Windows 10. -
Registry mod works for me also. Thanks a lot mate. Cheers !!!

@downloads
Would you be able to share a link to touchpad drivers working with W10?
Thx -

Now anyone have idea how to make hdmi port do its job?
-
It worked for me. I did update the AMD drivers to the most recent available on their website before testing it though.
-
I have latest beta and try before latest stable, both no hdmi output. But amd overdrive works for me

Hello guys, new member to the forum here.
I'm a proud owner of a Acer Aspire 5740G, that in the last 5 years, has been a very dependable machine.It has these specs: i5 430M, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD, HD 5650 1GB.
I think it's finally time to upgrade the trusty old pal. I mostly do browsing and watching movies on it, and casually playing some games (mostly Dota 2, CS:GO, TF2, indie games, etc.). This is what I plan on upgrading:
i5 430M ---> i7 640M or i7 740QM - at my place they run about the same, which you think will be better, gaming wise?
4GB DDR3 1066 ---> 8GB DDR3 1333 - I think it is enough for my needs.
640GB HDD ---> 250/500GB SSD - I think this will be the biggest upgrade, as the age of the tired 5 year old hdd (5400rpm 8mb cache) is showing up.
HD 5650 overclocking to HD 5730 levels, for a few more fps in newer games.
Also I want to ask, is it possible to upgrade the screen? Something like a AUO B156HW01 V.4 or a AUO B156HW01 V.7? I really would love to upgrade the old 1366x768 screen, as you all know, by today's standarts it's pretty damn crappy. Is such a upgrade possible?
Thank you all for a great community and a helpful thread, best regards! -
About CPU, you only profit from 740QM if your games support quad core, bottleneck is HD5650, even with 430M.
( Bios update to V1.28 for i7 CPU)
About RAM, look in memory-use if you really need 8GB, more RAM not in use make it not faster, with quad core you profit from 1333Mhz.
(Look about 10 page's back, some RAM type's give's problems)
SSD is the best noticeable upgrade, but in our laptop about 250Mb/s r/w max.
About the screen, size and connector are the same, but pins 20-21, 23-24, 26-27 and 29-30 (all "even" connections) are not supported by our laptop, don't now if it need it, as far as I now its never don in this thread.
Good luck !Last edited: Aug 23, 2015 -
@deepfreeze12 Full HD screen won't work as 5740 lacks dual LVDS.
-
Hi again guys and thanks very much for the replies.
Regarding the screen, too bad it can't be upgraded to a FHD one. Regarding the other upgrades:
The sure thing is I'm gonna get myself a SSD for sure. The old HDD is just so slow, that I can't stand it anymore. So gonna get myself some cheap SSD (240GB/256GB) and be done with it. Plenty of space for me. Don't need anymore.
Ram is cheap, so I'm probably gonna throw 8 gigs in place of the 4 gigs. I'm mostly using between 60 and 80 percent now most of the time, but I'm gonna do it anyway for a peace of mind.
Only thing I'm not sure is, what I should do CPU-wise. I don't wanna pay too much for a CPU, when I don't really push it THAT hard. At my place i7-640M and i7-740QM go for about $60. But on the other hand I found a i5-560M for just $20. Which is still pretty damn fast vs. my basic i5-430M (2.26GHz/2.53GHz vs. 2.67GHz/3.20GHz) and has some extra instructions it seems. So I'm really thinking I should go for it, as it is a very, very cheap upgrade.
Thanks again guys, best regards. -
@deepfreeze12 I bought Core i5 560M and it was a nice upgrade - for $20 certainly a great one.
Core i7 640M is not worth it in comparison with Core i5 560M - both are dual core and there is not too much difference between them - certainly not enough to justify the price difference.
Core i7 740QM is a real quad-core but it has a higher TDP so you have to decide if it's worth it for you if you are not pushing your current one to the max. -
@downloads Thanks for the reply, I tend to think so too. For relatively light to medium workloads and some casual, not that demanding gaming, I think an i5-560M for 20 bucks will be a pretty good upgrade. And cheap on at that, too.
Another question - what thermal paste did you use? I was thinking either AC MX-2 or AC MX-4 - is it worth the price difference? And do you guys recommend anything else? -
@deepfreeze12
I do not want to make you doubt about your decision, but I read some contradistinction in your decision.
You are willing to pay for new RAM that you maybe never make use of, for " a peace of mint " and want
to save money on a cheaper CPU, from you will always profit .
Difference between 560 and 640 are indeed small, but to take the fastest in mine case will give me "peace of mind" of course for a reasonable price. ( I paid €50 at that time)
Fist rule CPU upgrade will be noticeable about 30% more speed, I came from i3-330 ( 2150Mhz ) and 640
runs @3100Mhz in dual core mode by me.
Maybe buy 560 and sell it for more ?
I also take 8GB ram "for the sake of it" but also for a good price at that time ( €20 ).
I bought also a 740 for cheap witch I want to try for curiosity, but that's different, I like to try things out, same as I see possibilities to adopt HD screen, but you must have solder skills for it, no guaranty it will work.
Watt I want to say with this, make an upgrade and go for the max ( at reasonable price and " for peace of mint" ) or leave it, only SSD, but it must be always your decision.
I used MX-2 , good for me, normal temps.
Good luck.Last edited: Aug 29, 2015 -
@Andy53 Thanks for the reply.
It's not it's a contradiction, I just want to make the best "bang for the buck" choice.
I want to get more ram, because most of the time I have 2 or 3 twitch streams open, a few other chrome tabs, some programs on the background and some light game. And I regularly I see my ram used up to 80-90%. And if it's barely "enough" now, a year or two in the future it sure won't.
About the CPU, I have a i5-430M which is quite a bit faster than your i3-330M (2.13GHz vs. 2.53GHz), so the difference won't be that big between i5-560M (3.20GHz) and i7-640M (3.46GHz). Only 1MB cache more, which is insignificant. The i7-740QM is pretty good for multitasking, but in some games it is actually slower than both i5-560M and i7-640M, because of its low clock speed. Also for the price of a i7-640M or i7-740QM, I can get a i5-560M + 8 gigs of ram.And the rest of the money I can invest in a bigger size SSD, which I can always put in a different machine in the future. So I'm probably do that.
As of a paste, the difference here isn't that big between MX-2 and MX-4, so if I can get a discount on the MX-4, I'm gonna go for it, as every bit of lower temperature helps in notebooks.
Oh and last but not least, I'm probably gonna get a 9 cell or a 12 cell battery, because the stock 5 year old one, barely holds up for about 30 minutes. And with a SSD, low voltage DDR3L ram and bigger battery, that would be a significant upgrade also.
Best regards! -
Hi,
Did some one increase the voltage of HD5650 with Vbios mod. I see those words in the bios mod guide " Do NOT change anything else except clocks....."
My gpu start crashing over 630hz while mem go stable to 950hz(I did not try more). So I want to do the bios mod increasing the vcore voltage to 1.1v...
Did you notice any FPS increase after overclocking... I did not find any difference in gameplay COD5 and MK X. -
I did the mod. However MSI Afterburner shows that i still run 550@750. Same for AIDA64. You can see the mod figures as "original", however still running max 550@750.
What about you? When you mod do you have the reading you actually mod.Attached Files:

Finally succeeded... However found a better way (AMD Overdrive)...
1) install MSI Afterburner
2) use my settings from attachment "0"
3) open ati driver "Performance" menu (yes it is possible, it is there, see attachment "2". This reminds me the good old reg mod Nvidia Coolbits. )
Now I got useless bios mod, and still can boost to the edge from ati driver.
Finally looks like bios mod is useless for 5740g windows users, as voltage mod is not possible... For other notebook models MSI Afterburner also give a voltage mod option...Last edited: Sep 15, 2015 -
Anyone here can tell me if there is a way to run 120hz TFT Monitor on the 5740g? Or ist and old CRT with VGA the only way to run 120hz?
-
I got strange CPU (i3 330M) boosting over x16 multiplier when at idle
.
Is it possible to utilize the full TPD? Mine using only 25w from 35w, most probably the other are reserved for integrated video. I got moded bios and I switch off integrated video, however still the same.
What settings i can change in intel bios menu to boost performance?Attached Files:

I have i5-430m and ssd.
Is it worth upgrade to i5-580m?
Can i feel the difference?
Is 580m compatible with our chipset? -
It is compatible although you will need the latest BIOS for it to be recognized. If it's worth it or nor depends only on how much is the seller asking. The difference in speed is there but it's not a huge one - it's still the same computer and the same CPU series but for a good price it's worth it.
-
Thank you downloads.
last question
is this rams compatible with our pcs?
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-1333mhz-PC3-10666-204-pin-CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9/dp/B002YUF8ZG -
Yes, it looks fine.
-
Does anyone try to run Intel WiDi on our laptop? Is there any chance to do it?
-
I think it requires Intel graphics (apart from other things that you can get on 5740G) and since integrated Intel graphics is disabled on "G" version, it can't be done. Although it could be on non-G model.
-
-
@navve There will be a problem with that. I do have the file in question but on my main notebook and I'm stranded in a remote place with only my convertible for another no less than 10-12 days, so either someone else will help you in that time or I will but only when I'm back.
If no one else steps forward with the file, please remind me about it in two weeks.
Sorry about that. -

Any one have moded BIOS for our laptop? -

I'm sorry but I'll be away a bit longer than anticipated - I'll upload it Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
