The latest version of audio driver is available at Realtek's own website.
As for the card reader - I'm using the same driver that I lined to in the second post of the thread with no problems, but I have do admit I use memory cards very very rarely.
Check for newer drivers here: http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=353&func=select&id=116&lang=fr

This thread is fantastic, I have this notebook since 2010, but I never seen it
now I'm tryng to read all the post(60/586 for now)), but there is some question that I'm curious to early kwow the answer...
1 - What is about you the best choice or the better choices for the unused Mini PCIe extra slot?
2 - Anyone have the problem of vertical black bars without full screen resolution in some games(without native resolution)?
3 - what is the direct link for download the Realtek driver(thanks to @downloads)?
4 - Anyone have problem with sd card? I feel that it have a bad capability with XC type but I'm not sure...when i copy big file(with NTFS obviously) or more files...but I can't replicate the problem(random), I have this problem also with USB/SD adapter, no problem with USB pendisk or USB hard disk, the only way for read/write correctly an sdcard(only MicroSD) is to mount it in an Android Device... -
Hi Vi70
Same to me in 2013, but better late than never...
About XC cards, I think they are not supported by the Alcor reader, only
Secure Digital (SD), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick
(MS), Memory Stick PRO (MS PRO), and xD-Picture Card (xD).
This laptop came from 2009 and XC from 2010, maybe you have to look if there are USB/SD adapters who support it.
About miniPCI, for me USB3 is the best, depend on your needs, but I wish there was a good SATA3 adapter for it with a BIOS on it to join the main BIOS, but mine earlier attempt with that fails.
Can not say anything about the black bars, I only doing some "lite gaming" on XP with no problems. (DX8/DX9)
Have a nice reading...Last edited: Jun 15, 2016Vi7o likes this. -
I also feel that usb 3 is the best choice, can you explain me how I can implement this component?

Hello, tell my laptop Acer Aspire 5740G model ms2286. I want to make the CPU improvement.
I can set i7-640m 2 core or i7-840qw 4 core, which processor will be more stable work? I do not want to overheat... and yes I know at i7-840qw no video.
and tell me which version of BIOS is needed. where can I download
advance very grateful)))
-
@Dmitry2016
I think i7-640m will give you less problems, i7-840qm shall not really overheat in terms that it will break down , but there will be a lot of heat !
For both cpu's you need bios v1.28, get it on the acer site.Last edited: Jul 9, 2016Dmitry2016 and miro2fast4u like this. -
thanks, I will buy i7-640m here http://hz.ru.aliexpress.com/item/Or...2275452755.html?spm=2114.13010308.0.71.sSiKcc .

@Dmitry2016
Good choose, if you are up and running it, please check it with Fritz chess benchmark and HW64,
to see if it run also on 3.19 Ghz in stead of 2.8 Ghz in dual core mode,
see page 583 #5822
Thanks in advanced !Dmitry2016 likes this. -
Thank you. I install Win 10 x86 RAM 3 GB i7-640m its work be fine?.... Do I add RAM ???
-
Hi Dmitry,
3 Gb Ram is not enough. It's better to put 2x4 Gb ram and Win 10 x64. Also the best upgrade is one SSD, for example :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00M8ABFX6/?tag=hotukdealsev-21 -
More Ram depend on your needs, it make your laptop not faster if you don't use it.
If you running many tasks and programs at the same time or games with minimum recommendations or programs like Photoshop then more ram is better, you can see in your task manager how much you have in use.
I agree that 3 Gb is the minimum for it and also that SSD is the best upgrade...Last edited: Jul 14, 2016 -
hi to all does any one knows what is the size of the thermal pad between memory, chipset and the heatsink? I got some realy hot temperatures here cpu 75 tzs0 shows max 105 and the keyboard is getting a bit hot too i use cpuid hwmonitor. I want to change the thermal pads.
-
Hi qeopyth
I think its better to clean your cooling system (fan and heat sink) and put new cooling paste on your cpu and gpu.
Pads are probably 10 x 20mm and 3 a 4mm thick but they are doing as good as nothing,
Videoram on the other site of the mobo have no cooling at all.
If the are a bit useable I won't replace them. -
guys is there any way to improve bluetooth on this thing ? im using it to stream music to speakers and the range seems really suck compared to my galaxy s5 i can stream music 2 rooms away from the speakers while i barely can use the laptop 2 - 3 meters away from the speakers and sometimes it just randomly stutter i guess especially when disk been used ( like when i start to type something in chrome search bar 80% of the time the music stutter ugh)but not sure i tried different drivers without much help im using windows 10 btw
edit : nvm i think the module is too old bluetooth 2.1 :/Last edited: Jul 21, 2016 -
@yahyoh It might be but you can either replace it or remove it entirely and buy a Wi-Fi card with integrated BT.
I have an Intel 7260 which apparently uses BT 4.0 (not that I use it). The BT button works for it just like it would for a separate module and the upgrade is cheap and easy. -
I Always ask myself what happening if you put 2 wifi-cards in the laptop
(I now you need a second antenna, you can lead it thru the bottom part )
an put both on 2.4Gh or one on 5Ghz, will you get some kind of "raid" Wlan ?
Anyone tried ? -
@Andy53 It won't work unless you have some sort of aggregating software that would combine traffic - something I'm not aware of.
Otherwise you end up with two IPs and two connections with Windows using only one at a time.
I have entertained the idea on my Switch 10 convertible which has an inbuilt 2.4GHz card (150mbps) and an aftermarket 5GHz single stream 802.11ac nano-USB card (theoretical connection speed 466mbps), but traffic can only go through one card at a time, even if both are connected and have IPs assigned. -
Hi guys, i was hoping someone could help me since i couldn't find a solution on the web (Given, i did try for only like 10 minutes)
So i too have a 5740g, and i've had it for a while now (like 5-6 years don't know) in the meantime it became my moms laptop but that's not important.
So it all started when it BSODd one day with the error code 0x0000007b which as i found out is the code for corrupted hard drive or something. So i put the hard drive in my other laptop and got the same message, so i fired up a linux distribution (puppy) so i could just format the hard drive and put a fresh installation of windows on there.
I should also mention that i only found out the error code when i ran it on my computer, because when i tried to start it on the 5740g it would do absolutely nothing, you could heard the hard drive spin up slowly and then nothing. black screen no backlight, and if i try to press esc,f8 or delete it would just make a beep it did the same when i put the hard drive from my computer into it.
So i haven't put windows on the hard drive yet because i don't know if i should if there's something wrong with the laptop itself. I'm thinking maybe the bios battery is dead? i don't know. If you think you know the solution please help me i wanna get my mom off my back, she keeps taking my laptop to play games on facebook, it's horrifying.
Cheers -
It's an error for an inaccessible boot device - that might meant the HDD is on its last legs. You can probably check if it's the case bu looking at its SMART status.
Use some Linux distro from USB thumb drive and see if 5740G launches correctly with boot device set to USB in BIOS. If it does that probably rules out mobo failure.
A separate thing is check SMART attributes of the HDD in question - maybe that is the problem. Post them here if you don't know how to interpret them. SMART status as such os not necessarily useful, it's the separate attributes that are. -
What happens when you leave HDD out and turn the laptop on ?
No screen than you maybe right about cmos bat or corrupted cmos, also remove power battery.
Having screen than try to boot from cd/dvd, its more HDD hardware related.Last edited: Jul 28, 2016 -
Yeah guys i'm back, so it turns out it wasn't the HDD because i installed windows 10 on it perfectly and everything worked when i connect the 5740g to an external display, but as soon as it started up i saw damn green lines going vertically across the screen, i guess not lines but more like dots.
I'm guessing my GPU is fried? If so is there any way to fix it outside of getting a new laptop? -
Its sounds to me you have a problem with your screen, like your said, external monitor have no problems.
I think zebandido had same problems, ending up buying a new screen, don't now if he is still around or search for his posts.Last edited: Jul 28, 2016 -
Im still here guys
Yeah I had green lines and wrong colors on my screen when I changed the processor.
End up buying a new screen (matte) solved my problems... -
Is there any other way besides RW-Everything to control fan speeds? This programm is very uncomfortable to use and my notebooks automatic fan control is not working for some reason. Cant hear fan working before it hits around 90°C and then it goes 100% for a short while before it seems to turn off completely again.

Hello guys! I had overclocked GPU before and now I'm thinking that is CPU overclock possible?
EDIT3:
YES IT IS! Finally figured out how to do it. So the working method for me was using SetFSB (v. 2.3.178.134). You need the activation code for it ($). Then you must use the ASUS N61JQ generator and follow this guide:
I can post detailed tutorial later if someone need it.
Old message:
In the SetFSB website there is written this:
- ICS9LRS3197AKLF - Stopped the support. (Acer Aspire 5740G/7740G, ASUS N61JQ, Alienware M15x)
- ASUS N61JQ (ASUS N61JQ/N71JQ/N71JA, DELL Alienware M15x, Acer Aspire 5740/7740, Packard Bell TJ-75) - not working on all hardware
EDIT:
So re-read blacksapphires tutorial and tried OC with ICS9LPRS365BGLF generator since it shows 133.3 Mhz bclk speed. However I can only put 135 Mhz (HEX: 2A). If I put 136 Mhz (HEX: 30) the laptop will freeze or give me black screen. Any ideas?
EDIT2:
Now I tried smaller steps. Max for me is HEX: 2F. I guess it is something 135,XX MhzLast edited: Aug 17, 2016deepfreeze12 likes this. -
So I went little bit further with overclocking GPU and CPU. As you know the laptop resets the overclocking on every reboot. To solve this I managed to create shortcuts to desktop which allows me to activate or deactivate overclocking. I use AMD GPU Clock Tool for GPU and SetFSB for CPU.
GPU:
Create a shortcut for AMD GPU Clock Tool (.exe) and go to properties for it. Then look for "target" and put there:
- "...\AMDGPUClockTool.exe" -eng=XXX -mem=YYY" (Note: "...\" is your directory)
- XXX is overclock number (Mhz) for engine (I put 770)
- YYY is overclock number (Mhz) for memory (I put 900)
- More info: AMD GPU Clock Tool Shortcuts
Create a shortcut for SetFSB (.exe) and go to properties for it. Then look for "target" and put there:
- "...\setfsb.exe" -sZZZ -cg[ASUS N61JQ] (Note: "...\" is your directory)
- ZZZ is overclock number (PPL) for CPU
- For i3-330m PLL 133 is 2.133 GHz (stock) and PLL 140 is 2.241 Ghz
- For i5-560m PLL 133 is 3.200 GHz (stock) and PLL 142 is 3.362 Ghz
- More info: SetFSB Shortcut

Doesnt crash AMD GPU Clock Tool with the latest Windows 10 drivers?

Today I received i5-560m and installed that. I'm able to overclock that too with SetFSB. So far I haven't go further 3,5Ghz (PLL=144) which is same as i7-640m. Pretty good upgrade I think!
I ran Geekbench with max 3362Mhz and got 2048/4255 points. It is better score than i7-640m (2015/4112). Max heat I got was 74 degrees during benchmark.Last edited: Aug 23, 2016deepfreeze12 likes this. -
@Flash-A-Holic Very nice OC.
Is that 3.5GHz stable? Also, did you use the free version of SetFSB? And what thermal paste did you use? Would love to see some performance in games, before & after the OC.
-
You need paid version of SetFSB for OC.deepfreeze12 likes this. -
I get PLL Byte Error if I follow your guide and click Set FSB at the end.

Here is how you can automate the process with shortcuts:

Yes, I can see it, strange, I think the make a mistake.
Check your cpu with default values with their benchmarks.
Running your cpu @3362Mhz is Faster as i7@3466 I did not believe it, things as 4mb cache are a pre in benchmarks even if your ram is a bit faster.
Running it second time 2218/4716 its in marge.

Someone with i7-640m can confirmed it ?Last edited: Aug 24, 2016 -

My info is:
- Model: Acer Aspire 5740G-334G42Mn
- OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
- BIOS: Phoenix V1.28
- Mainboard: Intel HM55 Rev. 05 (Havendale/Clarkdale Host Bridge Rev. 18)
- CPU: i5-560m (was i3-330m originally)
- GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5470
- RAM: 4Gb (2+2GB PC3-8500F)
- Storage: Samsung 840 Series SSD 250Gb
-
Playback W1o image and try again, 2195/4637 http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/7926380
Somewhat slower, so I think benchmark results are made with laptops with poor cooling systems, the maybe
partial throttling while running the benchmark.
Our Acer have a good cooling system ! -
