    Hello,

I've just received my AS5740G notebook. It looks ok, however when I press the wifi button, the plastic has some play around it. The plastic panel is slight above the ESC and F1-F12 keys.

    Has anyone the same issue?

Yes I meant the ATI HDMI Audio Device.
Frankly I haven’t tested the notebook with HDMI and Cats 10.4 but it worked fine for me with 10.3

This part is a removable panel that is clicked-in so it probably isn't settled properly. You can do it yourself (gently) or just ignore it.

I've bought a Acer aspire 5740G 524G64MN and its a cool notebook but the colors on display look "blueish" and i'm more confortable with warmer colors, is this normal? or anyone have the same problema and had corrected it on ati catalyst control center on the color configuration?

I had the same...compared to my older LCD Monitors - this LED Display looked very blueish. Especially when I looked at my photos...I used the windows "calibrate color" settings to change it. I also adjusted the "avivo color" in the ATI CCC...now it looks OK! I had to get used to the much brighter LED screen first, but now I like it.

Do you know what kinda display you have? Mine is a LG DCF01 ;) (made by phillips)

I was using ATI's calibration, but now i see that windows 7 's one is much better and accurate by eye.
As for the kind of display i've no clue sorry, how do i see it?

Thanks a lot for the help :)

    Hey your english is good!
I used to adjust with the ATI panel too at first but could not get a satisfying picture...that's why I just use the windows calibration as well, it's also very simple.

There's 2 ways to check the display model...first hit the windows and "R" key on the keyboard to open the run box....type: dxdiag and hit enter, on the bottom...click "save all information" and then open the saved file. Here you can see the monitor info.

The other way is to just open Device Manager and check the properties for the monitor, click on the details tab and scroll through the pull out menu. ;)

Finally I made my C drive 100 GB with any sort of data loss... Thanks a bunch for helping me out buddy BruBoo... +1 rep :-D

I noticed a weird thing yesterday... I'm not able to scroll through my touchpad... multi-gestures aren't working either... I'm quite sure that they were working before... I've installed the Synaptics touchpad drivers 3 times but still its the same... current version of my Synaptics drivers is 14.0.6.0... anybody know how to fix this?

Also when I connect my external speakers to my 5740G, the bass is too damn high... its like 2x... however the speakers work fine when I connect them to my desktop... I've Realtek Audio Driver (6.0.1.5969) installed in my notebook and I've checked the settings in Realtek panel, everything seems fine there... Anyone idea what might be causing it?

    You are welcome :)

Touchpad : are you using a windows 7 driver for the right version etc.
Audio : Are you using any sound enhancements in the sounds tab or realtek HD app in control panel. It is fair to say that bass boosting settings would be lost on the internal speakers but very evident on decent external ones or headphones (assume you find the same on headphones?)

Touchpad problem has been solved to some extent... Multi gestures started working after I installed the touchpad driver that was in the Recovery DVD but still the scoll isn't working :-(

Nah... I didn't use any sound enhancement... here are the screenshots of my Realtek HD Audio Manager in Control Panel...

You are missing one tab on Realtek HD Audio Manager
    [IMG]

I would expect turning off the Audio Enhancer to have the desired effect.
Audio Enhancer makes music sound a lot better on built in speakers partially because it enriches the sounds that notebook speakers make rather quiet -that includes bases.
Try to uninstall the current driver completely and install the most recent one from Realtek website.

If you scroll back in the thread about 3-4 pages, you will see a bunch of talk about battery life, updating bios for prolonged battery life, and other tips to try to get the battery life increased.

I actually asked some of the questions =)

There is a BIOS update that will help the battery... Links are in previous pages in the thread. And honestly, my battery life is not too far above that, mine runs for about 2Hr 30-45minutes, doing NOTHING though.. Light browsing and music playin, is around 2 hours... Playing games (crysis warhead) it lasts about 50min-1hr.10mins

    Hope this helps

Can somebody point me to the erecovery software? I have made some mistakes on the acer and never did make backups. It runs ok, but I need to restore this thing.

System restore does not do enough.

Or, recovery disk will work. I don't care if I lose everything I have installed/saved.

I must have uninstalled this, because I can't find it. Anywhere to download it?

Maybe I should just do the windows backup??

    @downloads

are you missing the HDMI icon on your audio manager?
The dolby feature is also included on the old driver...you can acces it from the speaker icon in the sound properties.

Use Alt+F10 on system boot (when you see the Acer logo during BIOS POST) that will activate D2D recovery (if D2D is enabled in BIOS)

Yes, you are right I don’t have the HDMI icon in Realtek HD Audio Manager. I guess it’s because I use audio driver for HDMI provided by ATI, not by Realtek but that’s just a guess.

You can use either what is included in CCC or something made by Cyberlink.
I've tested both Media Show Espresso and PowerDirector- both supposedly use ATI stream but in fact only Media Show Espresso did use the GPU.
One serious drawback is that the encoder has to be able to use GPU so for example you cannot encode to xvid with GPU support because xvid doesn't support it so basically you are stuck with MP4.

    Yes 8.723 is Cats 10.4.
AVIVO Video Converter or whatever it's called can be accessed via CCC in Basic mode.

ati tells to install this on own risk .

moreover check this my old drivers , they were catalyst 10.4 only .
so i reverted back to old drives coz in display it was written hd 5600/5700 series [DDC] while my old had 5650 [LCD]

Acer never updates its site, so what?
ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD5730 are in fact the same exact card with different stock clocks- that's why ATI calls in 5600/5700 series now.

Does it have the "check" mark on the "Digital Output" tab in Realtek HD Audio Manager? Maybe it's just not activated. I haven't tested it myself nut I know other people did and it works.

Actually I don't use any. If I overclock memory too much I immediately see single pixels in different colors as for the core clock I haven't seen any artifacts- if I overdo it system just freezes during an intensive test.
You can use FurMark though- it doesn’t' count non-matching pixels like ATI Tools used to do but will stress and heat up both GPU and VRAM and any artifacts would be very easy to spot due to the looks of the test.

I don't know how extensive your computer skills are, so i will just say this like its the 1st day you have ever owned a computer =) sorry if i am insulting your intelligence... no harm meant.

Is it doing it in the background on the left side also? right by that gun? and is the page you are viewing flash/java based? i found out through my work (intuit) that usually page errors as the one you are seeing is/could be something corrupt with the version of one of the 2 programs that i mentioned above.. i Also have another question... You said that it only happens on that website, but what web browser are you using? FiREFoX?? iNTERNET EXPLOITER? GooGle Chrome? Try using another browser... Sometimes Companies and website developers create websites that are OPTIMIZED for CERTAIN web browsers, maybe the one you are viewing is optimized with a alternate web browser, not the one you are using... Does it happen in every browser that you try  ? My knowledge with computers and websites tell me that its most likely one of the above mentioned things.

-Flash/Java on the page viewed (not updated/Corrupt
    -Alternate browser (IE FF GC)
-web page optimization(built for optimization for a diff. browser)

Here are some links to the websites
Mozilla | Firefox web browser & Thunderbird email client
    java.com: Java + You
    Adobe - Adobe Flash Player
Google Chrome - Get a fast new browser. For PC, Mac, and Linux

EDIT : then again, it could just be a bug.. :)

    Hi,

I've installed GTA 4 and patch 1.0.4.0, however it doesn't run smoothly. I configured as per first page in this topic. I've got 32 fps during game's benchmark. But keeps stalling. I've installed ATI Cat. driver ver 10.4 - has not changed anything.
The vga card has dedicated 1Gb memory, but how can i check if it using the system memory as well? (I mean hypermemory).
    This is my config:

If it needs hypermemory, then it will take it from ram... I run gta IV nicely. Everything on very high/high except shadows and vsync.

Use GTA IV patch 1.0.0.4 (title update 5) the one you have now is different and older- do not use the most recent one though.
Keep in mind that I have Core i5 and that I've overclocked my HD5650 from 550/750 to 670/900 and that's how I got the smooth framerate in this game.

its horizontal as in pic i uploaded , the one right by the gun is in the image itself , i am nt talking abt that .

moreover in the pic i uploaded you can see the area i marked .
it only comes when i do up-down-up-down 2-3 time continuously at the page .

to remove that horizontal error i just scroll down full page so that the horizontal tear up is nt seen and it vanishes if i come back again to that page again i mean just refreshing makes it go .

moreover you can see that the page has no any java or flash content , there is just bulletin board scripts for tables , etc .

i was worried a bit whether it is a hardware fault coz its new na .
if its just a browser or page bug then its ok but at first notice is it really a page or browser bug ?? cant it be due to gfx fault ? i have hd 5650 .

well havnt seen anywhere else the same thing nt in any other site .
only at this forum at that particular page and even around at that particular image .

so i was wondering what could be wrong ?

It's definitely not a hardware fault, don't worry about that.
Use another browser to see if it happens in it too though.

Do you have any hint how could i set wifi to not to start when windows initialize? I always have to turn it off when windows starts, but after windows restart it stays down.

This is a feature. :) You are supposed to like it

It is not too hard to disable it permanently . . but that is not what is really needed. Maybe some clever hacker can modify launch manager to make a phantom button press and turn it off after windows starts . . . that would deal with the card and the light

Or one day we will get in the BIOS and hopefully set it there
