When that error comes up( bottom, right corner) then you have to click it and it will pop-up new window with bluetooth settings.

OK, well I've had this laptop for about 4 months now, and today I had my first problem with it: the laptop no longer boots up. I was turning the laptop back on after leaving it on standby for about 2 hours, and the laptop just sort of died and refused to turn on when I pressed the power button. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem (and if/how you have solved it) before I send it in...

So far I've tried taking out the AC adapter and the battery and holding down the power button for 30 seconds and then plugging the adapter back in - nothing happens. What does happen is the green light that is usually on the charger turns off when the plug the adapter into the laptop. Absolutely no lights on the laptop turn on anymore. =/

I had the exact same problem as yours. Mine died from a power surge because my library didn't have grounded outlets. Newegg.com sent me a new laptop. Not sure how long the process will be with Acer to fix your problem. Good luck.

Yes, its possible but you will have to change your LCD screen with the type of LCD screen that comes with Acer's 5740DG. The DG's screen uses some kind of polarised glass to produce those 3D effects.
I think changing the screen would void the warranty.

Hey sorry if this has been posted before but I need a little help, I've never overclocked before and I'm just wondering if I'm doing things right. Anyways I've set my rates to 650MHz core and 800MHz memory but I'm wondering if I should do this only when I am gaming or should I leave it like this permanently. Also, even though I disabled Power Play, when I reset back to the default clocks, it gives me 100mhz/150mhz. Is that normal? Thanks.

Sorry if this has been asked before or been answered. But I am not through reading 100+ pages.

If my 5740G comes with 32-bit Windows 7 and I want it to be 64-bit, how do I go about it?

    Cheers.

I dont think it will come with 32bit. Depends how much memory does it have.

But if it comes with 3GB or less memory and 32bit Windows 7, then you have to buy another license with 64bit Windows 7.

i posted this on networks forum, but ill post it here too, maybe someone had the same issues :)

    hello, i need some help
(just in case, im sorry for my english)
    i´ve an acer aspire 5740g, linksys e3000

my acer original card an atheros, cant connect on 5ghz, or anywhere near 300mbps! so i buyed a new one on ebay, an intel wireless pro 6200 to replace this atheros!

received today, installed, but...i cant get 300mbps, my acer wireless light, an orange light is now blinking all the time, my speed is unstable on 5ghz or 2.4! starts with 150mbps, drops to 90, then 120, then 150 again, all the time! and this annoying orange light blinking, atheros never blinked or im crazy! oh and my signal strenght now drops from 5 to four bars all the time, that never happened with atheros, i live on a small apartment! the router is really close, just drops on 2.4 or 5ghz

how do i get 300mbps? how i make my lan speed and signal stable? and dowloads, any advice about the blinking light? :p

just adding, i already tested with my older router, wrt54g2, and the light blinked the same way! my connection never drops, im playing wow right now, good ping and everything, but i want 300mbps =( doesnt make sense paying 160 dollars on this router and being unable to get 300mbps or worse getting unstable lan speed! apparently the problem is the wireless card but im not sure! latest drivers installed, intel app and everything updated! w7x64 hp!

    thanks a lot

Have you tried change the wireless advanced settings in Device Manager? You probably need to change the settings to get it connected to 5GHz mode & 300Mbps bandwidth. For my 5300, I need to change the settings to get connected with 300Mbps bandwidth. To know what the settings do, please visit this website for the Intel wireless card. For the atheros wireless card, you might want to check the advanced settings too.

    ^DeepBlack.
Regarding your question about that blinking light, its due to Intel's Wifi card drivers, I know that because I have also tried several atheros drivers (even modded one) and few of them used to blink like that but the latest and the official ones don't used to blink. It's just a driver issue. I know its annoying. You can search and try some modded intel wifi drivers that could possibly stop that light from blinking.
Which wifi router you are using right now? You are always limited with the maximum speed that your router supports. If its 54mbps or 108mbps(with some speedbooster models) then you can't get more than that. TRY getting 300mbps in ad-hoc mode with another laptop that too supports 300mbps.
Now....regarding your signal strength. Have you checked your intel wifi card's transmitting power settings. You might be able to set it through the device manager or the application that came with your intel's wifi card.
I have seen many laptops with different wifi cards but the atheros wifi card, somehow, seems to get good signal strength comparatively.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read carefully that you were having a linksys e3000 router. The fluctuation in speed that your are talking about, its may be due to the fact that the router doesn't always need to send the packets at the same speed. It actually depends on the data and the router also tries to conserve power (if automatic mode is enabled in router settings). Try sending a big file/folder (min. 1gB) through the router to another laptop (with 300mbps wifi card capability) and see what the speed is? It should be near 30MB/sec.

I'd recommend we continue this discussion in the networking sub-forum- it's network related and any findings we may come up with are gonna be much easier to find there rather than in 1500+ posts thread here.
Anyway I've answered your post there.

You don't have to set anything- it's gonna work like it should with full AHCI support right out of the box with Windows Vista and above.

Honestly I don't know but I assume Acer may be better as it's tailored to their notebooks whereas Windows offers the generic solution. That said I still have Acer ePower Management installed- I use v5 instead of v4 that came with the notebook though.
All in all I expect the difference to be hardly noticeable.

Hi i was wondering if someone could help me

I recently got a new acer aspire 5740G laptop. Its great and all but im not sure what i did but the programmable key (top right corner of keyboard) doesnt work when i press it.
Also when i press the volume control keys (top right keyboard) the green volume bar doesnt appear on the screen anymore like it used to.
Thirdly, when i press fn+any function key, they dont display on the screen either. For example if i connect my laptop to tv and when i press fn+F5, it'll allow me to choose which screens to display (Only display tv, only display laptop etc). The selection box doesnt pop up on my laptop screen like it used to.

Anyone could help it would be great
    Thanks

Use OC only for gaming and don not disable PowerPlay. Your OCed clocks are gonna go back to default on reboot and possibly standby anyway. Additionally there's no point in heating up GPU when you don't need the power. So leave the PowerPlay on and reset to default clocks when you're finished gaming.

What about video codecs? How does it look like- maybe post a screenshot?
What type of video files and media player are we talking about?

I am the owner of a 5740G-6395. I have recently upgraded to bluetooth. Got the module and cable from ebay awhile back. I did a system restore and all the drivers and software were automatically installed. The non-functioning Bluetooth button now works. Wondering if I can upgrade to a backlit keyboard. I saw that the 8940G model keyboard looks like that it will fit in my 5740G. Has anyone attempted this? Does anyone have pics of the connectors of 8940G keyboard? From what I can tell some backlit keyboards have two connectors and some have one. The LEDs need a power source just wondering if it is already provided in the one keyboard connector that is on 5940G.

You maybe have to modify the backlit-keyboard to get it fit properly on your notebook. You might interested with Hendrikson's thread. He have different acer notebook but it can be use as a guide. However this guide is not for fainthearted people.

Why don't you install video codecs, for example k-lite codec? downloads already give you the hints.

I'm also interested to know how you installed the BT module. Can you do a step-by-step tutorial, or anything like that?

    Thanks
