You won't fry it but if you don't need more OC yet- don't use it.
I had to use OC for several games otherwise I wouldn't be able to play on high settings but there's no point in using OC just for the sake of it.

Fry? Obviously you don't know what are you talking about so it is better not to do that what you don't understand (oc). Hd 5650 is enough powerful play most games even without overclocking, just in some cases you will not be able get high settings. And wasn't clear why you was asking how to overclok your gpu if you even don't thought to to do that? ;)

Lately I notice that the sound of video is not in sync...could this be connected to the latest catalyst driver 10.7 ?
That's the only thing I updated lately...

ATI on notebook is not supported by Mac OS X. This is because Apple Macbook doesn't use ATI graphic card. Only iMac use ATI Mobility graphic card but it use different connection for display. Basically you can installed Mac OS X on your 5740G but with lack of hardware acceleration on your graphic card. The result would be fast Macbook clone but with software accelerated GPU. Unless if the internal display is connected internally using DisplayPort, you may able get it to work.

Distorted images or pictures that not suppose to appear but appear on the screen. Usually happen when the GPU oveclocked more than it supposed to.

I think it should be a rule that people who ask for help must ask in COHERENT english, and ask in a respectful and proper manner. Not like "PLSSSS HELP." It makes the helper's day alot easier and plus, it's not a strain on the eyes and the mind.

Alright, so I may have to get my OS reinstalled because my computer's slowed down and I want it to get it back to Factory settings. Plus, my recovery disc programs gone to hell and will always freeze. Is there an alternate method of getting the disc and how would I exactly reinstall the OS?

And Kizwan, you might want to underclock a bit. Your GPU probably isn't suited to handle those clocks. Try underclocking by 25-50.

Not all people speak English, i.e English language is not their primary language. But the effort they put to write in English should be good enough. Yeah, no shout (message in capital letters) please.
You're mistaken me with somebody else. :) Firestorm10 is the one who complained about the artifacts after OC.

Stupid question but should I uninstall my previous cat 10.7 from control panel as simple program, or should use some software like driver cleaner or smht like that? Asking because last time I was trying to update my cat I have problems when uninstalled previous version of cat and trying to launch setup of new cat, it would not regonized my card.

This is another case of an unlucky GPU.

I´ve been playing Mafia 2 a few hours today with 670/1000 and everything was "smooth", 50+fps with No AA and V-sync ON.

Some other people can get their GPU´s up to 715/1100.

The maximum stable clocks on my card are 690/1000. If I hit 700 Core I get crashes, freeze and so on...

Choose the one which have better graphic card. Make sure GPU "Memory Bus Width" is 128bit or more. DELL have better warranty. If you have any problem, just call & the engineer will come to your house at the next day. :D

    Hi everybody
    I recently bought a 5741G, it has OS Win7 64-bit.
Unfortunately the hard disk has no partitions (don't know why. Personally I find it useful.my old Ferrari 3400 had 2 partitions)...
Anyway I'm new on Win7, and I would like to create a partition using the specified tool of Windows.
Will it work? After the partition will I still have the hidden recovery partition? Should I create/burn the recovery dvd before proceeding to the partition or after that?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes it will work and you're still gonna have the hidden partition. That said burn recovery DVDs beforehand just in case something gets messed up- you're gonna forget about it anyway if you don't do it soon. ;)

Thanks downloads for the quick response
In case I burn the recovery DVDs before the partition and then in it the future try to recover I will still have the partition right? I mean the recover dvd (created under only one partition) won't delete my second partition, right?

Your recovery partition won't get deleted unless you do it manually but DVDs are useful just in case.

It doesn't mean that he can do it himself. Supposedly CPUs are soldiered to the mobo in some newer Acer notebooks including 5740G. If it's true you are left with what you bought- no upgrade possible as far as the CPU is concerned.

Two physical cores but hyper threading being on makes the system see four. It usually slightly improves performance compared to no-HT situation with few exceptions and applications that can’t use multiple cores. In the latter situation an application uses only 25% of your overall CPU power whereas it would use 50% if HT was off and it could see only two cores.
An option to disable HT (among others) is available in the hidden Intel tab in BIOS.

    Hello,

I am new here and also a proud owner of this item.

My question is, what I have to do for upgrading the GPU driver? Must I deinstall the old driver first and then only install the driver from post 2? Please could you explain me exactly what to do?

    Sorry for my English

Last but not least, there is the 5740G-436G50Mn which is part of Acer's 5470D 3D series. It sports what Acer calls a TriDef 3D screen. This means that the sceen was coated with a special 3D Pixel coating. Acer claims that, using the required 3D prism glasses, effects akin a 3D digital cinema are possible.

    Anyone tried this?? :)
