If it doesn't help- follow subrotobasu's advice- buy quality media like Verbatim (MMC004 media code). None of the ones you've mentioned are considered very good.

It was surobatsu's advice- I was just parroting him. ;)
Even if it's not the media but some kind of system problem- it's worth to spend a few $ more for good quality media- unless you want an unpleasant surprise in a year or so when you discover your previously readable DVD is not readable anymore even though it hasn't been used.

At one time I was using the Moser Baer (MBI) Pearl white. It was written on them that they support maximum 8x but nero only showed 4x and 2x options. So I started burning them at 4x. At least 65-75% of them failed. Then I started burning them at 2x and all of them, i.e. 100% burned and read fine.
Try to burn your your dvds at lowest possible speed & see whats the result.

Ok, but I'll try tomorrow when buy new DVD's. If it's the same next step is reinstall the OS, and after that replace the DVD RAM with new or with HDD in caddy. Is it going to work properly ?

I hope you can rly fix that. I burned stuff even on those loldvd bought on chinatown (no offence..) that can ruin ur burner and it didnt fail.

Keep trying other media types and software, and if it continues send it back for fix!
(ps, im using PowerIso all the times. good for images, for recording, for setting vitual drive and it's only 1.6MB download)

Check if the Launch Manager is installed. Verify that drivers are installed (or not) by checking in the Device Manager if there's a Wi-Fi card detected or an unknown device listed.

Launch Manager is the software that controls the Wi-Fi on/off switch- without it installed and working you can't turn the wireless on.
Most recent drivers for Atheros Wi-Fi are available in a second post if this thread (aka the update post).
Launch Manager can be downloaded from Acer support site- you need LManager.exe running.

I am trying to play DVD with different region code and my player does not change the region code anymore although it says there is one more time possibility to change. I already changed 2 times. Does anyone know how to make the DVD player to change the region code back to default on the 5740G?

    Help very much appreciated.

Just reinstall new version of Win 7 Ultimate x64, write an DVD-RW and ooo miracle it's readable on the laptop. So my previous issue with the optical drive was by the OS. Cheers !

Hello, I'm not posting here often, but been following (and read it all) this thread for approx. half a year, basically, since i bought mine 5740G. Now to the point: I've fired up my GTA4 today, after at least a month of not playing it, and i got a sense that it is running bit smoother than I remembered, so after a while, i figured I would run a benchmark. Now result was rather surprising. I've got 37fps. Mind you, I'm running on stock clocks, and mine 5740G is equipped with i3, though it has the same hd5650. Since I've bought this laptop, I've been having approx. 31fps running on stock clocks on GTA4, and about 35-36fps OC'ed on 650/800. Now I ran the benchmark three more times, figuring there might something wrong, and I constantly get 37-38fps. I even resorted to monitoring clock speeds on GPU-Z, figuring I might somehow not running on 550/750, but i was. I then compared previous GTA4 benchmark files, figuring, that some graphics settings might have changed, but no, everything was set the same.
In this last month there were only two changes that I've made to my 5740G: I've installed Catalyst 11.1 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for X64 (since it RTM'ed finally). I previously updated my VGA drivers pretty much as soon as the were available, but there was never such increase in performance ever. I've never tinkered with Catalyst settings, so I figure they were always the same. So I am wondering now if somehow latest Catalyst 11.1 have their settings on default set differently than before, is it a combination of update to 11.1 and SP1, or is there something fishy going on?

in your case i would start worrying if the performance of your 5740g got worse, now that it got better why do you dig it? :p
anyway,i cant help you maybe some of the other guys can but my opinion is that you should be happy since this happened :D

edit:SP1 for Windows 7 is out?can you give a link?

It's obviously awesome when performance increases :) But I am curious to find out as to why exactly that happened, especially when it increased by such wide margin.
About SP1: well I guess the overlords 'round here would not be terribly pleased with me posting links to "some place", so I'll give you md5 of it: FD98C34256B3DA21FB8A7E91EF1C1903, that should help you find it. It is 99.9% the real deal, I have it on good authority, the only confirmation needed now is MS finally putting it on technet. That should happen in the near future.

Is it a fresh win 7 installation or have you only installed sp1 over existing win 7?
I think its either 11.1 or sp1 or Both. Why don't you revert back to 10.11 or 10.12 & see the results again. If you still get this performance then its SP1.

Well, seems it is 11.1 that is bringing this huge increase in fps. I've reverted back to 10.11 and ran the GTA4 benchmark three times, averaging 31 fps, then re-updated to 11.1, ran same benchmark once again three times, and I'm back at averaging 38fps easily. I have no idea what they have changed in 11.1, but the difference is enormous. All in all, I am delighted with the performance increase that 11.1 brought, since I am getting more fps by just this update, than OC'ing to 650/800 with previous drivers. Makes me wonder how much fps it would eek out running on 650/800 with 11.1, I'll try that later...

Sorry if it is written again but i can't find it. In the case we want to make a clean install on the OS (with no use of the Recovery Partition) where can we find the Win7 instalation cd? Our laptop has the original key on the sticker.

    Hey man

how did you install it? Everytime I try and install xp it crashes before xp startup, forcing me to alt+f10 and re-install the laptop from factory defaults.

What did you do to slipstream drivers, what cd did you use? Any help appreciated, I really don't know what I am doing wrong on this laptop to dual boot!

I have used the original XP x64 SP2 integrated Volume License CD to slipstream AHCI 10.1 drivers (F6 floppy ones) into it using nlite. In nLite, integrate that single driver in TXT mode and select '5 Series 4 Port AHCI' one. Make the iso bootable and burn it using nlite and then you are ready to go for the install.
Tell me if you need further help. May be some files in your XP CD are corrupt.

In the Bios you can switch AHCI to IDE, and no need to Modify XP.

Remember, after slipstreaming with a good xp copy, let the sata controller mode set to ahci. Don't change it to IDE.

I'm pretty sure we won't have SG neither officially nor via BIOS-mod.
You can't be disappointed though- the laptop went on sale without it and we all knew what we were buying.

Additionally- the battery is still too small in terms of its capacity to rival 5820TG (almost 40% bigger battery in TG).
It was never meant to be an ultra-portable- it was meant to be a bang for the buck notebook- it was and still is for that matter.
Mine will be one year old in a month- it still does hold a candle to new laptops- even those new mid-range notebooks are not considerably faster and that's comparing them with my granddad-notebook ;)

Hey subrotobasu, am I able to circumvent the whole slipstreaming process (maybe that is what I have been doing wrong!) if I have an external floppy drive (i.e. connects via usb)?

Can I just chuck the sata drivers on their and f6 or whatever it is during the blue screen of xp set up?

edit... damn floppy drive not working properly in win7 it seems... going to try using nlite again now, fingers crossed...!

yes, you can bypass the slipstreaming process. You can use those drivers through an external floppy drive during that first blue screen of xp setup. Though I am not sure this laptop supports booting through usb FDD.
You said even in IDE mode you were not able to install xp. Get a good copy first.
Then I will tell you the step by step method using nlite.

    Alright subrotobasu....

I did what you suggested, grabbed a new xp cd (32 bit, not 64), used the 32 bit version of the drivers u used, but it still crashes :(

at that exact point, at that exact time....

the laptop just switches off. No warning or anything. Not power related (never experienced it before in win7).

arrgh gonna need to do damn alt+f10 reboot again

any Idea what I am doing wrong?

I thought you were talking about xp 64-bit, thats why I gave you link for the 64-bit ahci drivers.
May be the problem is with the 32-bit xp itself with this laptop. I remember the EXACT same problem happened with me when I tried to install Windows 2000 SP4 on my old HP laptop. It never supported it and used to switch itself off at that point. I think the same is true for XP 32-bit with this laptop. The 32-bit XP might not have the necessary drivers for this laptop to boot up at the first place.
    Don't you have a 64-bit XP?
One more thing, XP is not efficient in managing the hardware resources. I am just using it as as alternate at hand. XP gave me a backup of 1hr 50 min on battery whereas Windows 7 gave a backup of 2hr 30min; TILL 11% battery backup remains.

I am having problems with my acer laptop, can someone identify the issue? Occasionally my acer screen freezes into these little discolored blocks that happen to sometimes last 5 seconds then return to normal, but sometimes it freezes the laptop completely. I have updated my laptop's graphic driver, i have no idea what the issue is. Help appreciated.

The only difference I can see is the ATI BIOS changed and the KBC (Keyboard)Version...

The touchpad, iAMT, chipset, webcam, modem are same as that of windows 7's.
The lan, audio & BT drivers can be downloaded from their respective sites.

    For wifi:
    Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Diver 9.2.0.105 WHQL Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7(all 32/64-bit)

For cardreader search this on the famous search engine:
    CardReader_XP32_64_151725482

Anything missing you need to know about?

    Thanks for the links!

Have you managed to find display drivers that work in 64-bit?

I didn't tell you about it knowingly. :D I wanted it to go in the separate post.
It was the hardest to find & I am pretty excited about it.
    You can use this link:
    http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...ep3=Aspire 7750G&OS=721&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6

The only disadvantage is that we'll not able to upgrade to newer catalysts.
