^ My pleasure. At last I was to help somebody here. Otherwise I was acting like a blood sucking leech for nearly 8 months. :D

Edit: By the way, can we get the 11.1 catalyst to work with this card by editing the inf file method you were talking about?

How to install drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon graphic cards... - HP Support Forum
I was using that guide on 11.1

I have never done this on x64 - I tried once with x32, but then mobility modder was released and so never had to look at these.

I also attempted using custom drivers, but they have problems in x64 of course - but you can have a crack at DNA drivers but there is driver signing issues and so on. He has a work around there, but I don't really like it - it uses ready driver plus, but he has done a commendable job. You can get his latest ones here and have a try if you like.

    DNA-ATi 10.9.1 | Do Not Argue

    edit...

just bumped into an issue installing network drivers... how did you do it? What do i install for network controller (in device manger)? Is it wireless drivers?

Good to know but I would like to stick with the more official ones. The acer 7750G's are the latest ones we could find on net for our gfx card to work with xp x64. They are 8.783, pretty much newer.

Edit: I used this one, k57_xp_2k3_x64-14.2.0.7 from their site, to install it manually from the device manager.
Edit 2: No..Its the network or ethernet controller in DM with yellow exclamatory sign.
Edit 3: Have you installed the chipset drivers. I faced a problem during that. First I installed the latest version from the intel's website. But still I was getting a yellow exclamatory sign in 'Other Devices' for 'PCI Data Acquisition..something'. Then I installed the previous version (the one from acer's website for our 5740G) and voila....it was gone. I searched for 2 days to figure it out. I would suggest you to first install the previous version and then the latest one from intel's website.
Let me know whether the newer one install some updated infs or says that the old ones are fine to keep.

I haven't noticed any performance difference in gaming benchmarks, not even 1%. Only the bootup times and the mouse clicks seems to be faster and more responsive.
Bottom line is: Windows 7 rocks in all aspects.

There will be no difference in performance so you may as well leave it as it is.

Did you update from 1.16 or 1.22?
I'm wondering if they updated vBIOS again (and never mentioned it in release notes) or not.

I've updated from 1.22 and the vBIOS changed a little:

    new vBIOS Version 012.020.000.039
    old vBIOS Version 012.020.000.013

I got a slightly better result in 3dmark11 with the new bios (i think it was like 4 points more)

    Another question??
How many memory slots does this laptop actually have? I assumed only 2...but when I run the CPU-Z program, it shows me there are 4 slots...

    Just two memory slots.
I may just update my BIOS out of boredom although I'd rather have a modified version that would allow me to switch off HT.
I've just discovered another app that can't use more than one core- Spybot Search & Destroy.

The i5 still has two physical cores. I haven't use Spybot in a long time, but even if it didn't use multiple cores, it doesn't mean that it's slowed down by multiple cores (unless it's badly programmed, I suppose.) I haven't seen HT slow me down, yet. (Mind you, I'm referring to HT on the i5 and the Atom. HT on P4's has always been annoying to me...)

I can't see your point. I've made mine few posts back- in short there are lots of apps that either use only on core or two cores.
Since these apps see Core i5 as 4 core CPU they use respectively 25% or 50% of what CPU has to offer.
Spybot can use only one core which means it can use up to 25% of the CPU. That is slower than it would be with HT disabled.

There's no iAMT driver on the front page.
As for Realtek- there's no way to link to them directly as you have to accept the license before being allowed to continue. Click here to get there.

Hi Downloads. Are you talking about hidden options in Intel menu?
You can easily unhide Intel tab using SYMCMOS.
Token number is still 0x141, only difference is in CRC code.
Check the fourth chapter in http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...-switchable-graphics-not-yet.html#post6649157 .
If you first generate new cmos.sav using command:
    Code:
    symcmos -V2 -Lcmos.sav
it will have actual CRC code already.

As far as i know you can't change the video card in a laptop(veeery few exlusions). You may be able to change the CPU if it is not soldered to the motherboard, but the video card can't be changed. And if I'm not mistaken all intel graphics are not dedicated so again can't be changed.

If anyone thinks I'm mistaken feel free to correct me.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has tested the GPUTool on the Acer 5740g. From what I can see, it can increase not only the memory and engine clocks, but also can raise shader clocks. Also it offers a "max OC" tool that allows it to slowly OC to your max, trying to find the perfect spot (be warned that the max that it finds might be unstable for games such as Crysis).

Download GPUTool Community Technology Preview 1 | techPowerUp

Just leaving the link here. I"m gonna test it later, but I'm sure one of you has already tested this, so I'm asking for input/feedback on whether I should try it or not.

Shaders are only for nVidia cards- you won't be able to change those on ATI as it's completely different architecture.

Downloads have you updated your bios yet. Even I want to update it but I am scared of bricking it as I have never flashed anything before. I wouldn't have thought of updating the bios if it were about K0 stepping only but its tempting to see the updated vBIOS. I know its risky but I want to know the safest method of flashing it.

I haven't updated yet. The safest way is to do it via bootable disk in DOS mode but I've never done that- I'm too lazy
New vBIOS will not improve performance- it's just like mobo BIOS. Usually eliminates small errors and so on.
There's nothing in this BIOS that would make it worth updating but curiosity may eventually make me do this (although we all know what curiosity did to a cat ;) )

Yes you can upgrade to Core i5 or Core i7 (the 2 core ones like Core i7 620M)

USB 2.0 max speed is roughly 30MB/s (when transferring a single big file) so 25MB/s seems reasonable.

same here with the humble 5470 (bios is reported 012.020.000.39.035534)
I have not run 3dmark, yet, but WEI raises from 5.0/6.2 to 5.1/6.3
I used to have these values with original drivers, but first time i get them with
    new ones.

I got the same number in my BIOS but took the vBIOS from the CCC info tab...since the last digits after the 39 didn't change anyways.
Your WEI score is pretty low...I assume you have the i3 CPU with the 512MB ati card?
All my WEI scores are 5.9 and 6.7
