So I did 3DMark06 benchmark and here are my results:

If that don't work - screen.
And Everest.
Downloads has score of CPU 2627, mine is 1381.
I wouldn't say it should be like this. Any ideas?
Edit: Whops, didn't see your post sorry downloads.

Thanks downloads. Should I send it to Acer?
Edit: Could it be software related? Should I try boot Ubuntu CD or something? -
-
I don't remember how to change number of cores used (apart from setting it in process manager but that would have been done manually for each process).
If anyone can chime in please advise, otherwise first step would be eRecovery and only if it doesn't work Acer support.
EDIT: TheThomas- Ubuntu seems to be a good way of verifying if it's Windows- personally I suspect it is. -
-
Downloading Ubuntu, but tell me - do I lose data using Acer eRecovery?
-
I don't think it's HT kizwan. Everst screenshot by TheThomas shows that both cores (threads) he can see are on the same physical core.
Both are CPU #1, Core #1, and only then HTT #1 & HTT #2. -
I'm going to buy the i7 940xm, I remember that last year cost $ 1000, if I can not lower the temperatures, I'll put in my asus g73. Thanks -
-
@TheThomas
Download and run Linux Live to test your CPU without loosing data. In command line enter
But first of all - [windows] + [r] -> msconfig -> second tab from left -> advanced options
check whether you have your cores turned off here -

So first MSCONFIG if it wont work then BIOS trick and Acer recovery if everything else fails? -
It looks like Ubuntu sees it all. That means Windows <strike>(or BIOS)</strike> is to blame.
Sir Ferdek is right about msconfig- I thought it was there but missed the advanced tab
EDIT: kizwan is right- not a BIOS issue. -

Cores were set to 2.

IIRC, I did benchmarks using Geekbench while ago for 4 [email protected], 2 [email protected] & 1 [email protected]. 4 [email protected] score higher than the other two. -
Everest finally shows 4 of them. Thanks everyone for their help, I really appreciate it guys.
About to try field test (AC2). Thanks again. -

I asked the guy who sells that i5-560m and he do ship to my country.. So probably going to buy since it's very cheap.
140 PLN total.. so that's 34.75 EUR ... Ordered. Now trying to get some information about his bank details so i can finish the transfer. Wish me luck -
Is CPU on 5740g overclockable? (i5 - 430)
-
yep, you need the last version of set fsb the max o.c stable for core i5 430m is 3.496 mhz -
What software do i need? from BIOS? please tell me how to overclock it =( and is it stable on 3,0 Ghz? is there any risk for getting overheat?
-
SetFSB_HomePage
it very stable on 3.0 ghz but you can have overheat -
thank you
i don't know oveclock it or not , cause overheat isn't good , you playing on oveclocked cpu?
-
I have the version of this laptop with the i330m and 5650.
Just wondering about this processor, a few questions.
Will I notice a great temperature difference with it?
Currently my temps range from as low as 35c to about 50c with normal use and about as high as 70-75c when playing some games (though in SIW it can show 2 different temps for the CPU, Core1 33c & Core2 45c, so I take the mid range temp)
Just want to double check this is compatible with the laptop, i.e. they are the same socket, think it's 988?
And is it just a simple thing of changing the processors? Or would I have to do anything with the BIOS? (this part might have been answered before in this thread but I can't remember)
Plus I'm guessing I'll notice a nice performance boost from the i330m?
Cheers -
-
Hello woodyblade and welcome to the forum.
Core i5 560M has the same TDP as Core i3 330M and it has the same max voltage (1.4V) so it should be pretty much the same when it comes to operating temperature.
It's possible that you will need to update to 1.28 BIOS which adds support for new CPU microcodes.
The socket should match and that would be 988 indeed.
You can search the net for a service manual for Aspire 5738G which has identical to 5740G when it comes to chassis. You'll see how easy/hard it is.
Performance boost should be noticeable. -
Thanks downloads, oh and one more thing, have you bought that processor off that site?
If so is he/she delivering to where you are? I assume they will deliver to the UK since it was an option for countries on registration, but have emailed them just incase.
Also it's a bit hard to pay money into it to get the account fully activated.
Shouldn't be too hard then, I've pulled a few laptops apart before and applied thermal paste.
Plus I'd already updated my BIOS to 1.28.
Cheers
EDIT: no problem about the activation seems to be for selling on this site? -
I haven't really registered on this website- I'm lazy so I always ask my friend to buy things for me but I've already e-mailed him to buy me this CPU.
As for the site it's totally legit- e-Bay pulled out of Poland because they couldn't compete with them- it's an established brand.
So as long as you're dealing with Allegro it's perfectly safe- user can scam you as everywhere else. -
Right does you friend live outside Poland?, I assume so, I emailed the user about posting to the UK and they said "not from the Polish" I assume they meant not from Poland.
-
It looks like I've started some kind of CPU upgrade madness due to that price
Gonna buy it ASAP before u do -
Yeah you have
, I offered to cover the postage costs to the UK but the user hasn't replied back yet, might not be getting it at this rate, thing costs £175 minimum here in our online retailers really expensive, that 130 zloty would be about £30 here (plus whatever postage costs are) still probably come out at a third of the price at worst.
-
-
@woodyblade
I have no idea what this person meant. I can understand that P&P would cost more than 10PLN (~2£) but that's about it. If he agreed to send it to sykrot who doesn't live in Poland I don't see why he wouldn't want to send it to the UK. Maybe you should try to e-mail him again.
If this person doesn't speak English than maybe an e-mail in Polish would do. I could translate if you want.
@Sir Ferdek
We're gonna be all very happy or very pissed if it turns out to be a scam. Then again while this person's history is rather short it consists of only positive feedback and mainly for cheap CPUs. I assume these were used (photo also indicates that) but where would he get 24 (that was the initial number) high-end CPUs? -
@Downloads
I have no freaking idea where did he get them from - if I were able to get so many used CPU's for that price I would be selling them
I've just asked him about i7-640m and he's also selling itWaiting for the price offer from him.
EDIT: Strongest CPU for our 5740g's, i7-640m - 250 zl (62€ -
I'm gonna go with i5 560M. It's on par with i7 620M so I assume there's not gonna be that much difference in performance between i5 560M and i7 640M.
I'm afraid the price for i7 might be a bit higher and I would rather keep it down as I'm buying something that I don't really need plus I'm upgrading my network connection, buying a new router and either an external HDD, a NAS or a new 7200rpm HDD for 5740G (the current one would end up in an external enclosure as a backup drive)
It's not even about all these thing being expensive but all of them are completely unneeded so I should be more reasonable
EDIT:
@Sir Ferdek I compared benchmarks on notebookcheck and it seems it's Core i7 640M is too expensive for the minimal speed gain over Core i5 560M -
I got a reply back from the seller, delivery to UK is about 10 euros, so going to cost £40ish.
Cheers for posting that deal Sir Ferdek, I'll probably post back how I went on when/if I get the processor. -
@woodyblade
The auction ends tomorrow at roughly 6 P.M. CET which is 5 P.M. GMT so don't be too slow -
New Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology driver

I've never installed Intel (R) Matrix Storage with only one hdd
improve performance? -
Sir Ferdek, I also changed the i3-330M at i5-540M. Low idle increased by about 15 degrees, and now, on average, is 46-52 degrees (24 degrees in the room). In the games core temperature soars to 78 degrees, the GPU up to 70 degrees.
-
USD 15? Wow, that is too cheap. Scam? I know it is an engineering sample but even I tempted to try.
-
-
, so I've emailed the user to see how/if I can pay or if they have any suggestions.
Will have to wait and see... -
i have currently 1.22 bios , should i update it to 1.28 ??
will i get some performance gain ?? -
