    Hello,

I apologize in advance if this isn't the proper place to post this question, but I've been searching for a solution to this for quite a while now.

I have the Acer Aspire 5742, which comes with a whole lot of software I don't want pre installed along with Windows 7 Home.

All I want to do, which I've done plenty in the past with other computers and never had a problem, is to install a clean version of my Windows and start over. No 30 days trials of this and that, no tool bars, games, etc...

I tried to do what I've always done, insert my bootable OS disk into the DVD, boot, format the main partition and let it do the work. It sorta did, then a windows message box pop up, saying "Windows can not..." and it restarted before I could even read it. The version of windows I was trying to install was 7, Ultimate 64 bit. The one which was pre installed was Home 64 bit, I don't know if that matters, but anyway, after restarting I tried to install the drivers, which I got from the official site and got into a world of restarts and unexpected shut downs to the point the computer shuts down sometimes even as I press F2 to enter the BIOS screen. I downloaded the latest BIOS update and installed it, tried to intsall my Win 7 Ultimate again, and ended up with that same failure message right before the completion of the installation.

Please help :( I just want to install a clean version on my system, is that too much to ask ? I called the lab here in Israel and the only thing that guys are willing to do is to install that same image with all that 30 days trials, which I consider spam  , not to mention stuff like Google Toolbar, which I consider Spyware.

    Thanks

If the computer shuts down on BIOS splash screen when you press F2 it's not Windows-related. It looks like a hardware failure of some kind (check RAM and HDD).

Since restoring from a hidden partition or recovery DVDs doesn't take much time- try that. If it sorts out your issues you know it's software, if it doesn't you'll have to check hardware.

Thanks. Definitely looks like hardware problem other than the fact IT JUST CAME BACK FROM THE LAB

I guess Acer has some stupid people working in Israel.
