    Hi there,
I've recently bought an Acer Aspire 5742G (5464G50Mnkk) and aside from it being a great laptop, the monitor doesn't seem to be of a very high quality as on 32bit colour, some the colour gradients and fine shades of colours appear grainy and badly dithered. It has a good graphics card in it, the Nvidia GT420M , and i'm surprised that the screen's colours don't look better... Is there any way to improve this?
    Many thanks in advance

Is it the same problem as what I have, which I posted here?

I think our problems might be the same, yes. My issue is that when fading into white, white dots mix with the fading colour, in a kind of polka dot fashion, making a poor looking transition to white. I really hope it's a driver problem not a hardware problem, as I don't really want to get a new screen or anything :(

Ya ditto, very bright grays right?

Also, is your screen manufactured by AUO? You can check by:

Start > rightclick on Computer > properties > device manager > open up "monitors" > rightclick on Generic PnP Monitor > select properties > details tab > select Hardware IDs from dropdown menu. Then it'll show your screen manufacturer and type. My 5820TG, for instance, is AUO40EC (sucks).

It's a 'AUO22EC'. Where can I go from here? Is there any driver to improve the picture or can I get a new monitor, if that's even possible?

Yeah laptop screen replacement is possible, even easily if you know your stuff. I've been trying to find anyone who's good in this field to help me with this but no one has replied to my thread yet.

It's all about just finding another LCD that's compatible (mainly the ribbon socket connection), then if it's the same size and resolution it should be an easy swap of screens.
