Hello everybody I know this may not be the best place to post this, but I didn't find it anywhere else. So my problem is that I have a Acer Aspire 5742ZG and I bought a i5 560m processor for it and well it said that it supports it but when I got it and put it in well all the laptop did is turn on and did nothing else no picture no loading nothing, so far what I have found out is that the bios doesn't support it. I have done a bios upgrade to the lastest and well still nothing, but I have seen on youtube that somebody had this running with i5 520m and well I would like to ask is there some kind of modded bios to get this working?

So which BIOS version do you have exactly?

I moved the post to a separate thread.

It's weird because what should have happened if BIOS wouldn't recognized the CPU is that it would start- display some warning like "microcode unknown, to skip press F1" and start normally.
That's what happened to my 5740G when I upgraded CPU to Core i5 560M without updating the BIOS first. It did start with this "press F1 to skip" message and I actually updated BIOS with new CPU inside.

Also 1.30 is the most recent BIOS and should work fine. Are you sure that the CPU is in working order?

Well how I bought it from said yes, but it can be that he just lied. It doesn't look damaged. Is there any other way that I can find out that its working?

You don't happen to have a different Arrandale laptop in your household?

The only thing you can easily do is dismantles the notebook again- check if your old CPU works and if it does, check again if the new one does.
    Does 5742ZG use Phoenix BIOS?

There's no point reflashing the BIOS but if you want to- here it is.

I think I have found out why its not working well I just cleaned it completly from the termal paste and well now at bright light I just saw that at the smaller chip on one of its corners there is a really really small part missing but its really small, but I think that why its not working.

I have Phoenix BIOS- it's possible that these BIOSes would acct in a different manner if presented with a unrecognized CPU.
