Hi, I own an Acer Aspire 5745G and I'm having some problems with random shutdowns(?).
I play a game called Runescape which requires java to play. I've had this laptop for like 1 year, and 1-2 months ago my computer started to shutdown randomly, or it might be overheating.
What happens is that when i play a game, it shuts down after an ~hour, but if i just use textdocuments it doesn't, so thats why I think it has something to do with the temperature. Also, if i play a game while im using Youtube, it shutsdowns after 5 minutes.
I've tried vacuuming the computer and I've reinstalled the BIOS, but it still happens.
I really need some help here.

First you need to use a software to check temps ... download HWinfo32 HWiNFO32 Download

open it up -> open sensors tab -> & keep it running in the background ... then try alt + Tabing in & out of ur game every like 15 minutes & check the temps & keep us posted

Five probably amounts to Processor, separate reading for core 1 and core 2, GPU diode (your graphics card) and HDD.

What's most interesting is GPU when you play a game and Processor temperature under any stress be it a game or CPU benchmark.

As downloads mentioned you should be concerned about the CPU temps & GPU ones ... & while you are at it check the harddrive temp too because harddrives are less heat resilient (max operating temp of 60~65c)

Here's some pictures so that you can see it all; one with fahrenheit and another with celsius:

CPU is too hot- 91*C to 93*C (on the second screen 201*F=93*C)
GPU us OK. Some CPUs (Core i3) have T Juction @95*C- you're not far from that so it's possible that some more gaming and you get past throttling and into automatic shutdown zone.

You should either re-apply thermal compound yourself or send it to Acer to do that.

I agree with downloads if these CPU temps are after a gaming session, with a hdd temp like that indicating that you are in a room with pretty cool ambient temp ... there has to be something wrong ... my i3 370 never gets past 80c in a steaming 30~35c room ... time to clean that lappy :D

well ... first you should look for a disassembly guide for your laptop model somewhere ... then you can follow one of the guides on applying thermal paste for laptops which are A LOT & quite easy with minimal tools ... I thin kyou may only need a visa or something similar to spread the paste ... oh & the actual paste ofc :D

Or you can find a service center with someone who can do it ... but still that depends on the $$$

The temp at which the fans kick in might also be a problem. On my laptop, which has T-junction at 100oC, the max fan level kicks in at 95oC.

I wonder if they "forgot" to change the values :p
