    Hey folks,

I have Acer Aspire 5745G for like 3 weeks so far.

I get some random freezes. Most of the time i get them playing World of warcraft. But it is not just into the game. I can get when opening winamp or just after reboot.

Only way to deal with freeze is hard reboot /10sec power button/

I installed clean win 7 but still get this freezes. Sometimes after freeze i try to go in safemode and i get freeze during loading it.

I try RAM test but get 0 errors. I try with different nvidia drivers still....

    i7, 330m video

    Any ideas ?

Could you post a SMART status of your HDD (i.e. from a free version of HDTune)?

    Yes that's it.
Everything looks good except for the "unsafe shutdown count" which reads 62.
It’s not a cause of your problem though- just a result.
Does this number seem justified- have you been forced to hard reboot so many times?
Be sure to update your drivers (especially Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers and make sure that you are using the most recent Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology.

    No problems with overheating?
    What's your BIOS version?

each hard reboot is because of freeze i hate that laptops dont have reboot button :S

    about drivers:

i install clean win7 and i download wifi, lan, chipset, hdd drivers from acer support website

    about next topic overheating:

I'm not sure i mean yea it gets hot but come on it's i7.. Can you tell me at what temp it should be running. Before i reinstall i get heat monitor showing 70C cpu at max when gaming.

My bios is last one posted in acer website. flash it before i make clean install still

    i also try with/without battery/AC same ....

any more ideas ? what can it be?

Temps seem to be OK provided they are accurate- you may want to double-check with different software.
As for drivers- I meant new drivers not Acer ones ;)
Acer basically never updated drivers- I'd recommend using the most recent drivers for your hardware from its manufacturers or from laptopvideo2go forums.

i did that and all my drivers are up to date. right now after i checked hdd and ram i think it's something with overheating.

I think that way because at most i get freezes when gaming and AFTER freeze /already hottt :> /

i never get freeze leaving my laptop on but doing nothing or when watching movie dunno.

    downloading everest right now

In that case you should be more concerned with GPU temperature not CPU one.
Download GPU-Z and set the monitoring tab to "max temperature" and play a game (you can also use HW Monitor)
Just remember that it won’t be saved anywhere unless you check "log to file in" GPU-Z and even that may not be enough.
The best way would be to play game for a while, stop it or ALT+TAB from it and see what'd the temperature of the GPU.

Well it looks like it shut down when GPU reached 81*C- it's not exactly chilly but pretty far from being hot.
See what happens when you run Furmark- it should make the GPU even hotter and there's a graph showing GPU temp on the screen so follow it all the time.
If the notebook freezes again re-test it at least twice more to see if it always freezes when GPU reaches the same temperature- that would narrow down possibilities.

It's seems to be a good news bad news situation.
Good news is that it doesn't seem to be GPU, bad news is that we still don't know what it is.

Look into Windows error log- see if it's of any help.

Also to make sure- you've updated drivers but NOT to the from Acer website.

by windows error log you mean that one?

    p.s

    Description
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000096, 0xfffff880064ef9c2, 0xfffff880087abcc0, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 092610-25428-01.

ps2 looks like it is my 330m geforce i'm running last /beta drivers/ from nvidia website. when i downloaded current safe drivers i get only sound driver update future but not video driver thats why i'm using v 256 aka beta once

    to get it clear

258.96_notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_international_whql ----> current latest stable from nvidia website give me only sound drivers but not video drivers o.0

260.63_notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_international_beta ---> what i'm using and they install just fine but still beta :S

Yeah- roll back to the driver Acer provided and stick with it until nVidia releases new stable version of their driver.
You can also try to update nVidia driver manually via device manager->GT 330M-> update driver and then browse to where nVidia installer unpacks and find the inf file and choose GT330M.
If it says the hardware doesn't match it may be because hardware ID is missing from the inf file so I wouldn't be bothered by that as long as you are sure you have a GT 330M and you choose a GT 330M from the list.

Another safe way is to install driver Acer provided and see if you can update from it straight to the most recent stable version from nVidia website.

Have you had these problems form the beginning or has that started sometime after you've bought the notebook?
If you're out of options the last resort is to restore notebook to factory defaults (D2D recovery or from recovery DVDs). If the problem persists after that it's gotta be a hardware issue that requires Acer Support attention.

Recovery DVDs are not included nowadays- you have to burn them yourself.
Another option is to go to BIOS- make sure that D2D recovery is enabled reboot and press ALT+F10 when you see Acer logo- that should launch eRecovery.
Word of caution though- backup your data before you proceed with recovery.
Second thing- go to BIOS setup and leave the notebook for a while- if it crashes/freezes even then first of all it's hardware related for sure and secondly there are chances that it's gonna crash during Windows restore an ruin it.
If the notebook runs fine when in BIOS setup and your personal data has been backed-up you may proceed with a system restore.
If it crashes in BIOS setup though- it's time to send it to support center.

I'm having the same problems as you with my 3820tg. Haven't figured it out either but after the last forced restart my computer starting making a large knocking sound.

So I'm going to cross my fingers and hope the repair centre can fix it first try. My optimism is currently 50 50.

Most likely GPU but since it's most likely soldiered to the mobo (not an MXM module) the whole motherboard would have to be replaced.
