Beginner's guide to fixing overheating issues on 5755G.
My Acer Aspire 5755G started randomly shutting down (screen goes black, hear a click, computer is off in 1 second).
This is due to overheating, because Acer doesn't make the fan on certain models (5755G being one of them) speed up above ~60% even when the CPU/GPU is very hot. After trying numerous solutions with sporadic and unrepeatable success - namely using speedfan, ACfancontrol, and modding/updating the BIOS - I found: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/711908-acer-7551g-fan-control-utility-fixes-overheating.html
This program works to turn the fan on. Follow the instructions on the link - download the program, put the Acer7551GFanControl.exe file into a folder (I put it on my desktop); then, open up a Word document and copy + paste the following into it:

Save the document as XML - File -> Save As -> Other formats -> (beneath the file name, from dropdown list) XML. Put it in the same place you saved the original program (for me, desktop).
Run the original program. You might get an error message - I did every time I opened the program. Fortunately, it still works to turn the fan on. Check in your taskbar for a white icon with question marks - right click and check "Full Speed".
Please leave feedback if this worked.
