Hi all just a quick note to say becarefull with your laptop i recently bought the acer aspire 5920 which by the way was brilliant did everything i wanted to and more as i work away alot and had the freeview usbstick it was a dream tv dvd and gaming machine all in one saved lugging tv's and dvd everytime i moved site anyway back you the point i recently was victim to burglary and amongst all the heartbreak and trauma to the children my 5920 was one of the items taken the insurance company now want proof of owner ship ie reciept which is fair anough although i had an aluminium laptop case sor the reciept manuals laptop and all the other bits of junk you get just got thrown in the case. Now the insurance company have written to me and said they will accept a photo of the machine but lets face it how many of us take photos of our laptops. Anyway what im trying to say is to save possible hassle keep reciepts separate and take a pic of your laptop hopefully you will never lose it and never have the hassles with your insurance company so i have now resided to the fact ill get paid out for the items i lost but will have to foot the bill for anew 5920 .

How long ago did you buy it? Did you use a credit card? If it was online the shop should have a record of your name address and order and they can send you another bill. If you used a credit card it should show up on the credit card statment too. If you bought it with cash and in a store then no hope I guess.
-
why not just ask someone on here to e-mail you a picture of theirs? how would the insurance company ever know?
-
I wish i had bought it on my credit card wave but unfortunatly i paid cash for it

I work for an electronics store if you go back to where you baught it from and tell them the date you purchased it and any other items you took at the same time they will be able to reprint your recept

I personally would not let this go. Photos would probably be time-stamped which the insurance companies would note. How about phoning the store you got it from and asking for an invoice to be sent to you? Whatever charges you incur would be much less than buying a new laptop.
Or if you had any contacts from your holiday destination, perhaps they might be kind enough to get you the relevant proof.
If you registered your notebook online for the Acer 1 yr travellers warranty that your machine prompted you to do when you first received your notebook, that should be enough proof for the insurance company...please say you filled in the warranty... -

digital cameras also put date and other stuff in **** data, right click on the picture click properties\summary\advanced and look in there before you send them the photo unless you gonna print it out and then send it. just a heads up.

Holy crap, ever hear of punctuation and paragraphs???
-
the warrenty has nothing to do with it,just ask the store "phone/write" where u bought it from for a receipt im sure the person would remember selling it you on said date.....the machine hasnt been out that long ....it has to be worth it! laptops dont grow on trees

Like anthony99 wrote, phone the store where you bought the laptop from! Talk to the the manager and see if they can send you another receipt. Even if you paid cash for it, the transaction was still electronically enter into his system. Using the box that it came in, you should be able to provide the seller with some type of digital info he/she can use to verify that you are the buyer. Also check with the insurance company, they may allow the box as proof of purchase.
Of course, you kept the box? Right? -
do you still have the box with serail number on it if so you can still register it online
also i can tottaly understand we have rash of break lately at our shop and it sucks -
Hi there first of all thankyou for all your help. Well here is the update the insurance company have agreed to replace my acer 5920 the problem i have now is the shortage in the uk for the 5920. They now say it could be a different system of the same spec. So my question to all you nice guys out there is whats the best system equal to the 5920? Any help would be a great help.
Many thanks -
you could spec yourself a dell model with nearly the same feature set as the 5920! .....theres also the asus g1s "not sure if thats the proper name"
or take a look at the zepto range http://www.zepto.com/country/default.aspx -
Wow sorry to hear about the burglary, but i'm glad they decided to insure you.
By the same specs does it roughly have to be the same price? Cause you could go and customize something from Alienware/Voodoo for a lot more expensive. If not, there's Dell, Zepto and RockDirect for you to customize. Also there's the Asus G1S or F3Sv. Or if you really want, would you be able to wait till the 5920 comes in stock?
