    Hi all,

I want more cpu speed for running multiple virtual machines on my laptop. Also memory upgrade. But the qwestion is:

Wil the Aspire 5920 be able to run with X9000 bios support?
I did hear that the T9500 should work, anyone allready done it?

    Best regards,
    PleXuS

Go for the T9500, because the OCing options will not be available in the BIOS for the X9000, and being a 15" notebook, the cooling system of the 5920 may have problems to keep the X9000 cool when under load.

The T9300 will be a better option, since it is only 0.1GHz slower than the T9500, and alot cheaper.

Also, you'll need a good amount of RAM....

    isn't the X9000 running 200mhz faaster?

    X9000 TDP=44W - 2,8Ghz - 6Mb L2 Cache
    T9500 TDP=35W - 2,6Ghz - 6Mb L2 Cache
    T7300 TDP=35W - 2Ghz - 4Mb L2 Cache (original)

can the psu hold more 9W

overclocking is not needed and X9000 vs T9500 in price is also not much for me.
its just on full load it could destroy the laptop because of the heat the X9000 produces? also this laptop got Nvidia M8600GT

    4Gb 800Mhz OCZ DDR2 Ram should be enough :)
Also it has Intel 1Gb cache memory so.

    Best regards,

I am not sure if the power brick would be able to hold up to the X9000. I've seen cases where the GPU downclocks due to the Xtreme CPUs at full load.
But as said, XE CPUs are mainly for 17"+ notebooks. Go with the T9300/T9500, and 4GB DDR2-800 should be fine, but it will downclock to DDR2-667 due to a chipset limitation. Also, if you have Vista/XP 32-bit, you won't get the full 4GB addressed. Anywhere less than 3.5GB will be addressable.

I am not very good with electic stuff, but you can download RMClock, and check the discharge rate (Battery Page) at full load (Run Orthos) when on battery, and compare it with the rating of the power brick. AFAIK, nothing burns, but modules downclock the frequency, and hence the voltage reduces, so the power also decreases.

You can also undervolt the CPU and GPU.

Im not sure if the x9000 has been added to the bios update so not sure if that will work. But i can confirm the T9500 works just fine as I have it in my 5920 right along with 4 gb ram.

Also, theres no point getting 800mhz ram as it will be downclocked unless your gonna replace your laptop soon with something that can handle it (unlikely tho since your upgrading now).

x9000 works like a charm, and its even not getting allot hotter then my older T7300. The temp is little bit higher.. ventilation is running a little bit higher.. but its ok. No big problems at this moment :) also used AKASA AK-450 Silver compound. So it should get the heat faster out of the notebook. thanks to heatpipe. (i hope) :D
