    Hello!
I have an Acer Aspire 5920G running Vista Home Premium that it came with preinstalled. Now I'm itching to make the switch to Windows 7, but apparently the 5920G isn't on Acer's list of compatible computers, which has me a bit apprehensive... However, I've run the upgrade advisor and it gave me just a few minor concerns, which leads me to my question:

If I upgrade to Windows 7, will my recovery partition still be intact, enabling me to revert back to the factory defaults with Windows Vista if need be?

    Thanks. :)

    Hi Renate!
Acer's list only shows models that it will support Windows 7 on, and provide free upgrades to if you purchased the machine after a given date.
The 5920G can most certainly run Windows 7 just fine otherwise.

If you do upgrade, the recovery partition might be intact, but the Acer eRecovery software needed to access it will only remain on your system if you do an in-place upgrade from Vista to 7 (instead of a clean install). If I were you, I'd burn those recovery DVDs (and the drivers & applications one, too) just to be safe.

I installed last week while formatting from win 7 dvd u can see there is a partition in hdd( I had formatted with vista dvd before that time I did not know (or see) that there was a partitions) I blew it up and gained 12 gb more. İf you don't touch it you can turn back. But I don't think I will ever go back.

Congratulations Nm1, you just nuked your disk-to-disk recovery partition.
It occupies the first 10-12GB of your hard drive, and contains the factory default image used by Acer eRecovery to create your recovery DVDs. I do hope you still have those just in case.

    Hello!!

    I installed windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my 5920G.

All the devices work great. Most of the vista drivers work on 7,too.

    Although I have two problems.

The Media Touch Buttons are not working and when I use the volume slider and the fn keys for turning off the screen, touchpad, speakers etc I don't get any notification on the screen.

What do I need to install in order to make these work like before??

Oh,btw laptop is much faster with 7.. ;)

Dritek Launch Manager is the software you need to get the special buttons and everything working again. Look for it on Acer's downloads page.

Hm. The Launch Manager should be controlling those.
Time to call Acer Support (grumble).

Hi, I think you'll need the touch pad drivers that are on another thread to get those buttons to work...

    Why would you need them?

You can just use the Serial Key on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop to perform a full re-installation of Vista if you wanted to and all the drivers can be downloaded from Acer.

There's absolutely nothing of use in the recovery partition that you can't download again if needed.

Thanks for the answers, TehSuigi and Nm1. I'll definitely burn those recovery DVDs before I proceed. It turns out I can't do a regular upgrade, as the version of Windows 7 that I'm getting from work is the Enterprise version, so it'll be a clean install for me it seems. Can't wait! :)

Hello, I had a clean install (several to be honest) of windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 59 20 G and I have some problems so pls if someone would help me....
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB L2 Cache); NVIDIA GeForce 9500 M GS Turbo Cache; 4 GB DDR2 and some other stuff. My problem is that the OS works very fast for 30 sec or so and than everything stops, I put the CPU Meter gadget cose it won't stop working when this problem persits, and what happens is that the Cpu goes to oo %.
I have problems with the wmp touch keys too but that is not a concern + dhe arcade Deluxe button (because I havent installed the arcade deluxe ).
IDK if I was clear, I hope there is a solution.
    Thank You.

I have an Acer 751 Netbook that came with Vista. I did a clean install of Windows 7 and the performance increase is through the roof. 7 is absolutely superior to Vista, and I'm even liking it better than XP.

You will NOT want to revert to Vista, trust me.

So your computer runs fine for about 30 seconds and then locks up? If you just did a clean install of 7, I'd reinstall it again, being sure to delete/format the partition and also download the latest 7-specific drivers direct from either the manufacturer of your computer or the manufacturer of the components, rather than relying on the default drivers that 7 supplies.

No its more like a temporary freeze, every 30 to 70 seconds everything works and than out of nowhere 50 seconds of freezing... :(
I have run some chkdsk; sfc /scannow and no bad file was reported.
Yes I have formated always the partition were my OS is and I installed only the official drivers on acer's page. Any idea?

Remember, Vista drivers work on Windows 7 too. Try using that if you haven't already.

Can one of you please tell me how you managed this? I have downloaded the FTP file and installed the launch manager but when I open it all I get is the option to add "empowering technology" "email manager" and "internet browser" my vol slider etc still dont work and when I click to add any of these three it looks for files that are not there. please help because I love Windows 7 on my aspire but really wish all the functions worked like they did with crappy Vista! any help would be greatly appreciated :D
