I have found this laptop at play.com in the UK. Its the first I have seen the 5920 with a 8600M GT Graphics card, HD-DVD Drive and 250GB HD.

Do you think the graphics card is an error and should be GS. Until yesterday it was down as a release date of 1 November, then it suddenly stated in stock.

Their is no way of contacting play to question this. What do you guys think?

I'm confused. Have I missed something, even Acer don't show a product with 8600M GT, HD-DVD and 250GB Hard Drive.

Laptops direct only sell one with HD-DVD and 250GB Hard Drive. Theres has a GS card.

Can you show me any other link except play.com where somebody got all 3 things in the 5920?

Its now showing as RRP 899.99 but actual selling price of 789. They knocked another £10 off today and increased the RRP. This is strange.

Don't want to get burnt and end up with the GS card, but want the HD-DVD and larger HD.

    Please help.

Just where did you get the idea that 5920G can't have the configuration with GT, 250GB HD, and HD DVD drive? To be honest I've never seen a 5920G with GS.

I suppose you can always return it if it's wrong.

It's because he has 8600M GS card instead of Original 8600M GT card.Make sure to buy 8600M GT card model :)

For me this is the best mid-range gaming laptop i use so far

if the play.com has the 8600gt then its a cracking offer

the gs gets 2750 in 3dmark 06 where as the gt gets 3250 which is pretty good as laptops go!

i do have the 8600gt bigspin,i know i can play games on this laptop but you can also on a xbox360 ,argos for £175.00 free halo3,and before you start saying you cant play crisis on the xbox,i cant even play outrun2006 on fullsettings what chance have we got with anything more graphically challanging? apart from that i still recomend the 5920 for value for money just not for gaming

i saw the 5920g advertised in micromart(uk) with the 8600gt and 250gb hd with laptops direct so perhaps they have upgraded th hd ,seems like a good offer ,im a bit pissed off ,i only bought mine about 3 weeks ago and it came with the 160gb hd,ow well, btw i bought and played colin mcrae rally 4 today with all the settings maxed out and with 2xaa and its playing at 60fps i feel quite chuffed, perhaps i was a bit wrong about the performance afterall, also think ill be pkaying a few more games as well, crysis anybody?

There is a thread discussing crysis on 5920G. It should run fine at medium settings, which is pretty impressive. Anyway, just make sure that your laptop is in "maximum" power mode.

hmmm. the 250GB HD, is it 4200rpm though?

you should not compare consoles and laptops. can you play xbox360 on the move? can you take it on A/L? can you get on the net sitting at the airport with it? If you want desktop performance from your laptop go for dell xps1730 with dual 512Mb 8700mgt-s in sli mode. but it'll set you back more 2000 quid which is insane.

If you have Acer enpowering utility, you should be able to easily control the CPU and GPU clock speed under "Power settings"

Or you can go to the control panel and find the "power" icon.

The Acer site shows this model as a GT version, so I guess the one on Play.com is the same - and I wouldnt waste any time phoning Play.com, they just look at the specifications on the website and say 'thats the specifications given to us by the manufacturer, we can't confirm the details, I'd advise googling it', incase anyone was wondering about calling them.

the link to that play.com page now shows a 8600M GS, not a GT. So I assume it was an error on their part.

(sorry for the fact its a week old lol, but I've only just joined)

    Aspire Acer 5920G

I managed to install XP on my 5920G preinstalled with VISTA successfully. I downloaded all the xp drivers from www.acersupport.com.au . The system essessentiallyworks very well and smoothly except for the following hiccups:

When I check under Device Manager I noticed 3 devices under other devices wich exclaimation marks

The 3 are Base System Device
When I select the individual property under each of the highlighted Base System Device it shows
    1 .PCI bus 10, device 9, function 3
    2 PCI bus 10, device 9, function 2
    3 PCI bus 10, device 9, function 4

All the function and short keys work except the following:
F5= I could not connect to an external projector.
I also noticed that the infra red does not work (although there is no exclaimation mark on the device driver). Finally I also notice the short cut CD buttons with blue lights do not work.

Has anyone loaded XP before? If you have can you advise on what is wrong and how can I resolve the problem?

Thank God I didn't bother. By submitting 6 changes to play.com that it should be a GS they finally checked it and corrected.
