Turbo Memory wasn't the best idea and that's why it never really caught on.
If you want to make system more responsive you would be better off upgrading the HDD to 7200rpm one. You have enough RAM to run everything smoothly and it's the HDD that is the slowest part of the computer.

Which HDD 320-500GB would you recommend (Speed, Power efficiency and quiet) ?

There are quite a few 7200rpm 2.5" drivers that may be interesting starting from the cheap but reliable and pretty fast Samsung SpinPoint MP4 (or MP7 with 16MB cache) to Seagate Momentus XT which employs a 4GB NAND memory chip making it an affordable combo of an SSD drive and your typical HDD.
It depends on how much are you willing to pay and what's available where you live. I wouldn't go down to 320GB though- newer disks are faster and 320GB tends to be on top of previous generation, the new ones usually start at 500GB.

I know HDTune is a very basic test of linear read speed but you can download HD Tune for free and see how much of an upgrade this drive would be in terms of access time and average read speed. That should give you an idea of if it's worth it or not.

Here is my poor Toshiba 200GB 4,200rpm

I think that I'll go for the Seagate XT 500GB.

Will I get the max performance from the XT with the 5920G SATA I ?

SATA I will only limit your burst speeds, the SSD portion is not hugely fast in terms of throughput but latencies which SATA I wont limit.

That's gonna be a meaningful upgrade- HDD that is nearly three times faster will make a hell of a difference.

thanks for this thread, I'm going to change the 640GB WD Scorpio Blue, to a 500GB WD Scorpio Black. I don't need all the storage space so the performance improvement should be nice!

Thanks. The XT is on the way.

    BTW,

I have a T9500 cpu on the way too (going to upgrade my T7300).

So.. my system is up and running with the new XT (very noticeable improvement), but I think that the temp is a bit high (HDD).

    idle - 48c
    general use - 51c
    under effort - 55c

    ambient - 30c

What do you think ? Is it normal ?

Good call -the 640GB Scorpio Blue is a bit of a slug, from my experience.
Occasionally I think about swapping my older 320GB Scorpio Blue back in to get some semblance of speed returned to my system.
