Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forums, but I've been reading for some time and figured it was time to participate.
Here's the story, I got a new Acer 5920G laptop without an OS, really didn't want Vista for obvious reasons, and managed to install XP after hours of troubleshooting. Basically to sum up what was necessary, I had to create a custom XP install with the Sata drivers, I used nLite to create a slipstreamed XP copy from my original XP cd. After installing XP I managed to locate all the drivers for the laptop, which were XP compatible... now the problem.
The computer comes with a supposedly decent, stereo microphone, however no matter which version of the realtek high def drivers I install, I can't seem to get the mic working. If anyone could tell me what to try/what drivers to use, I would be very grateful.
If anyone wants more info on how I installed XP, just give me a shout.
Thanks,
Nitai

i managed to get it working on 1.78
-
Thanks, I'm going to try it right now, downloading "realtek high definition audio driver 1.78". I'll post results in case someone else has a similar problem.
-
I just finished testing the 1.78 driver and the mic still won't function. The built in microphone is controlled by the Realtek drivers, right?
-
Yes that is true.
Did you uninstalled the previous driver? -
Hi everybody!
I hope that some of you could help me with similar problem which I have. I also recently bought Aspire 5920g, and installed Win XP on it. Problem is that I can't find suitable sound drivers. My problem is not related only to the microphone, but to the sound in general.
I tried to install several versions of Realtek drivers (but not 1.78 - i couldn't find it), MS HDA driver, tried even to format my hard drive and re-install everything once again.
Nothing helped.
Does anyone have maybe an idea what could be wrong?
@nitaislick: which driver have you used for sound playback? Is there any special instalation procedure necessary? And also did you manage to find apropriate drivers for TV tuner and remote control?
Thank you very, very much in advance for any information! -

Any hint is more than welcome... -
which one did you installed did you installed using exe or zip files.
I am using the zip files to install the sound driver. If not mistaken when i was using the exe i didn't manage to install the driver properly. -
You said that you can give some detailed information. So im ready to change my f****** vista to XP. So how did you do your installation cd? I read some tutorials, but still need more info. Then where did you find SATA drivers etc...
Thanks -
HI
have you finally solved the p
roblem? i have the same problem
-
have you finally found a solution? i have the same problem please help
-
I would like to know if you are using the setup file or the zip file to installed the driver.
I recommend to uninstall the previous driver and use the zip file to install the sound driver.
I will try on the lastest sound driver to see if the mic is working perfectly. So far i am still using 1.78 -
I am just installing the new drivers in my new acer 1720 in the shop. The latest is R 1.85 http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
there you will find it. Anyhow i havent tested the microphone yet. the shop keeper is working on the installation. I am running xp on the acer. -
I have XP with working mic
Well there is some problem with volume, You can't gain it too much becouse it will catch sound from speakres and it make a real big noise.
Here is a things You have to do:
1. Instal drivers it dosen't matter which
2. Then You go to Volume Control -->> Options --->> Properties and then....
Like in the picture (A picture is more then 1000 words)
Well there is an disadventage You will hear noises from same electronic parts ( I have one and I don't know how to deal with it, but it can be muted if not useing mic) -
It is worth mentioning that your chipset driver should be installed for the built-in microphones to work.
-
This drivers fix the microphone for XP for me (Acer Aspire 4315Mi):
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_4710/driver/Audio.zip
Before i did use the latest Realtek, but then my microphone did not work! -
Same problem here. Tried all the different drivers and all the different installation ways and nothing... In a spanish forum I read that it is not possible to make the built-in microphone properly with XP... Can somebody confirm that is using Skype with XP in a 5920G laptop? Thanks a lot.
B.
P.S. Shamtu: I did as you said and I get a very very small increase of the volume, but still very low. Is your laptop a 5920G? -
hi all I have an acer travelmate 2410 I cant get the mike to work either. It has never worked since i bought it and it had all software already installed including the driver for realteck. Rubbish eh
stilll looking for a solution I was wondering about buying a soundcard on a usb have heard some of them are good (miglia do a reasonable one) im sure any would be better than what i have now! anybody reccommend a solution or a reasonable usd sound device? -
I had the same issue about a year ago and it turned out to be an update from microsoft. it turned out to be a security update that did the damage.
they put out a patch for the realtek control panel which cured the choppy sound and the mic issue...see link.

try opening the realtek control panel and playing with the settings.the equalizer has a default setting which is ok but the sound is low.on most acers now
