I have 2 Hidden recovery partitions, untouched and 2 other partitions made by acer installation. I accidentaly overwriten acer mbr with original vista mbr. So when I want to recover, through ALT+F10 or eRecovery, it only restarts computer and load Vista. I took mbrwrwin.exe from eRecovery and mbr.bin from recovery partition. A ran it in cmd and it wrote me MBR WRITING SUCCEDED. No change after this. I dont have any CD, DVD. Please I am asking you, I read that 21 page topic but there isnt any mention of new aspire models.

It must be somewhere but I can't see how to start a thread so I'm trying this way. It is my only hope I guess. The dreaded ACER 5920G and Vista.I can, it seems reinstall all the bits but cannot write them to make a recovery CD. Some time age, (not that long) the 4 blue lights down the right hand side of the laptop came on (don't know if it was something I did and at the time the Acer Arcade thing was not installed)and will not go off. The DVD player runs up but is not seen by windows which states the driver is not available. I try to install the drivers and am told that the most up to date ones are already there. I know the DVD works, because I used it to boot up from a Lynux CD. Can anyone give me a clue please - its driving me nuts. The machine works OK but is very slow to but up and run programs i.e FS2004.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Sam Sambrook

Someone help! I have an acer aspire 5920 that crashed, just over 1 yr. old. I don't have the recovery disk and called Acer, they do not have a recovery disk!!!
I can either reinstall Vista through a local computer repair shop, or install my Dell XP, but need the original drivers! Anyone have the restore disks I can upload? It would be greatly appreciated!

I just posted this on another thread, may help you:

When you start the computer up, on the acer screen press ALT+F10, this brings up a recovery console (provided you havn't deleted the hidden recovery partition), no dvd's needed. It will recover the computer from the hidden recovery partition to factory default. This has Vista on it, plus all of your drivers and apps. Before you do it, make sure D2D recovery is enabled in the BIOS.

Make sure you backup all of your important files on C: before doing this as it will overwrite everything on it.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I reformatted the hd and tried installing my XP that came with my DELL. Now it says it will expire in 30 days, cause it will not connect to the internet. All the ACER original drivers are missing, and every driver I try installing says it needs SP1, 2, 3 to install, but won't let me install after downloading from a different computer, since the ACER can't connect to the internet on the laptop. ACER was no help on the phone.

Have you downloaded, SP1,2 or 3 and tried installing these.

Where did you download the drivers from, what site, were they XP drivers.

I downloaded sp1 from microsoft.com and when I try to install, I get this error:

"The server name and address could not be resolved."

It tries to connect to: http://xpSP1.microsoft.com/isapi/psream3.dll/xp/SP1.USA.1106a

How can I install SP1 if I can't connect to the internet since it is missing all the drivers, etc.?

I appreciate you trying to troubleshoot this!

That address won't work for me either.

I don't see why you would need to connect to the internet once you've downloaded sp1 to install it. Seems odd. What is the size of the Supposed SP1 file you've downloaded.

I've just been onto microsofts website and it says SP1 is no longer available for download, so you may need to get it from elsewhere, or go straight to SP2

I'm downloading SP2 and I'll try that. At the same time I'm reinstalling XP on the ACER since the more I have tried, the more I have messed up the start-up.!

Don't know why, but I can't get any of the XP drivers to work on this laptop. They all have their own errors, including the lata86enu (Intel) says "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software".
I tried to install SP3 because of all this, but even that states: "Not enough quota is available to process this command."

Odd. Are they drivers from the site i listed, or are they ones you've found yourself.

Do you know the devices on your system, might be worth having a look at the device manufacturers webpages.

Edit: SP3 issue, On your drive where you have xp, how much space do you have on there, free space, also go into taskmanager, see what your RAM/pagefile usage is. Dies it seem high, are you running out???

I downloaded ALL the drivers from your link, then tried to run one at a time. Iwould be happy if it connected to the internet, then at least I could activate Windows before it expires. (since I had to reinstall).
I installed the Intel Wireless driver, but I keep getting that the hardware radio switch is off. I have been researching this to death, tried disabling, then enabling, disabling the firewall, etc. etc.
It is the... Intel Pro/Wireless 3945/ABG Network Connection

I'm almost finished installing the drivers. I now have sound, so I think I'm making progress!
If I only can get this connected to the internet, I would be happy! I even tried a wired connection!

Delete the Intel Card from your device manager, and delete the driver aswell.

Then try this. It's the latest driver from intels website.

Also (this may sound dumb), but have you pressed the button to turn the wireless on.

I deleted and installed the new driver...and...

    I'M CONNECTED!

You are awesome! Thanks for all your time! Now I have to tell you...
This computer is actually one of my students (and his family) at a local high school. The computer crashed and Acer would not do anything. The one year warranty expired in Nov.2008!
It is a family in need, with an ill father w/ cancer, and 4 children at home. You not only helped me, but helped a whole family.
    Thank you again!

    phil

You can order the disks directly from ACER this is the only options by the way. Depending on where you're located it will cost you like 30-50 bucks.

    Hello,
I have accidentally deleted all the partitions on the disk. Could you please tell me how can I restore the Quickboot Acer Arcade partition ? Hopefully I had already created the Factory Default DVDs. Is the Quickboot partition restored by these dvds or they restore only the operating system ?

Otherwise can somebody please upload an image of the Acer Arcade Quickboot partition ?

    Thanks in advance

About my last message: I found the Arcade InstantOn Installer in the folder c:\Acer or c:\AcerSW after the first boot !

But now I have another problem. I am trying to restore the original MBR from the RTMBR.BIN file and when I type the command "mbrwrdos.exe install rtmbr.bin" and although it says that everything was ok, it does NOT restore the mbr ! I also tried with many other tools and the same happens.

Does anybody know what am I doing wrong ?

    Thanks in advance

I have had my 5920 since February 2008 and really love. However, I made a restore disk set and have lost disk #1 (Vista). Yesterday I believe my OS was either infected or became corrupt and it would not let me do a restore (Acer restore) nor make another set of disks. I did the alt-f10 and it worked, yet I still cannot make another set of disks (I click and it literally does nothing) and I was wondering if Acer sells the recovery disks here in the US and if I should just do a clean install (I do not have a Vista install disk). I know that you can get the drivers for XP, but I actually have gotten used to Vista and want to keep it.

    I am in deep kaka!
My 5920g working tne for last 18months. Haven't hired a bluray disc fo long time. When I tried to play the machine required me to carry out major upgrades inorder to play the disc. Since them it's been downhill all the way. I've ended up with no install of Acer Arcade Deluxe - and the download I installed from megaupload just doesn't want to know a blue ray disck. But --- the finall nail is that looking at storage in disk management on my computer - I see both hidden partitions but there are NO files in either according to the ammount of free space I have. I have attempted a number of Sys Restores but it only allows me to go back a few days to after the machine is in this terrible state. Any one out there who can help me pls....Oxfordshire UK

In Windows Disk management hidden partitions look 100% free but if you use any 3rd party utility you'll see there are files in them.
I have no idea about Bluray disks but you could try right clicking cmd in Accessories and run as admin and run this command without the quotes "sfc /scannow".

ellalan - thanks for reply... Have run sfc /scannow and eneded up with a txt file of 33Mb and contains data fsince mid december 09. I've no idea what to o with it!
Can you suggets 3rd party s/w so that i can see the dat on hidden partitions?
I think that i need assurance that the recovery system is going to work including re-establishing arcade deluxe for blue ray working again.....

    Hi Buzz L,
sfc /scannow corrects any corrupted system files, as for the third party utilities: http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html
    http://download.cnet.com/Paragon-Partition-Manager-Free-Edition-32-bit/3000-2248_4-10904411.html
Edit: Are you trying to do factory state recovery? Sorry I missed that, yes you can do factory recovery by pressing Alt+F10(this is on my Aspire5610z, you can check whether it's same for your model as well), you have to make sure all your partitions are not altered for the recovery, suppose your original set up was C(Acer): and D(Data): you have to keep that way while you do the recovery.
