Hello everyone, I saw something in my 5920G motherboard that is intriguing me. I've noticed to vacant ic pads marked U6 and U7 on this board, so I went and look it up, and in the manual I found the picture shows 2 ic soldered onto it and its refering as DDR2 SDRAM IC.

Does anyone really knows what those are for?

    Maybe intel GPU dedicated ram.

Is that the reason why we can't use the onboard GPU?

    Someone?! :D

    Thanks!

I think there are 4 actually. It's been some time since I last looked at my MoBo. Anyway, not useful for anything, and the on-board GPU doesn't use this RAM (check a non-G motherboard and you'll see). I think there was also a Robson thing, but again, nothing useful. There is though an unused SATA right behind the TV tuner/Turbo memory slot, now that's useful. I tried to convert the PATA ODD to SlimLine SATA one (like in the newer models), but I was missing 2 capacitors and I didn't knew it at the time. So, it might work, might not. The other option is, keep the PATA ODD and convert the TV tuner/Turbo memory slot to mSATA using the lines that are right behind it.

That's a pitty, I was full of hope that it meant something really worthwhile. About that sata connector, I've never noticed it. Would be nice to attach one to it and tracing the lines from the one of the HD and comparing for missing capacitors/resistors. That makes me wonder if this motherboard is used in another model.

    Cheers!

The traces are there, you just have to put the missing capacitors/resistors according to the schematics. I think it was meant to be used in bigger machine, but it never was. One of the reasons why the LVDS port is fully wired for higher resolution displays.

Well I have another money pit now, so not that much into modifying the 5920G lately. Also another thing is, it's not with me at the moment.

Well that's unfortunate. But we all need to go along with the tide right? :)

That would be really great if someone could pull that off. I would try, but I wasnt able to repair my motherboard yet.
