I would like to know your opinion, falks. I bought a new ext. harddrive (Verbatim 3.5" 1TB QUAD INTERFACE) in order to connect it to my laptop (Acer Aspire 5930, Win Vista, SP1) via eSATA port. However this does not work at all. The computer simply does not detect the hard drive. The same trouble appeared when i tried to connect the drive to another machine, so it is possible its simply broken down. But the USB connection works pretty well. So I'm not sure, shall I sand it back or is there anything I could do to make it work? Thank's a lot for your opinions and advice! Have a nice day, Cenzanni

Is the AC plugged in? Unlike USB, e-SATA is not bus powered.

Is the e-SATA interface indicated at all in Device Manager?

I am not sure about that. There is a device named Intel(R) ICH9M/M-E Family 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller 2929, however how do I know if the eSATA inerface is included?

I didn't see this before- Is the other machine Vista also?

It's possible that the interface in the drive doesn't work. It might be better to exchange it at this point.

The other computer was W7. I was thinking about sending it back, however that would mean a few troubles for me, which is why I tried to find some solution on my own (and with your help) first...

Huh, solution found :) The problem was, that the cable just did not stick in well. Using a scalpel was a simple way to make it fit!
