I was wondering if there was anyone who owned an Aspire 5930G and could say something about this machine? Hows the screen etc.?

Bump your post every three days or so if you do not get a reply today.
Good luck

I wonder it too.. -
I have this laptop and after using it for just under a month I think its perfect... well not perfect there is a dead pixel, although I don't usually see it exept when on a white background. My eyes are just drawn to it
. Other than that though it is ideal for my uses (medium gaming with a bit of word processing). The screen is sleek, however it is a real fingerprint magnet and no matter what I do it is impossible to clean. Alot speedier than my desktop (only single core and rubbish graphics card). Another con though is that it is hot, not unbearable- just too hot for me to put on my lap for too long. Although, not having had another laptop I have nothing to comare it to, however I do feel it was worth getting and feel it my duty to tell others of this magnificent machine.

I got mine a few days ago, its pretty good, the screen goes 1280x800 by max resolution which is ok but if you watch movies or play lots of games you might want it larger and more detailed. The subwoofer is also good for playing music but its nothing special compared to decent external speakers. I think the graphics card is really good can play all recent games although you might want to lower the settings for the likes of crysis etc, or it'll be pretty slow! Its got a few extras a well like webcam, memory card reader and bluetooth in some models, thats all i can rly think of at the moment but a very good laptop imo

I have a few questions regarding as to how much can this laptop be upgraded.
Namely ... the CPU/RAM/GPU/hdd
If I'm not mistaken the 9600m GT DD3 in this model is MXM II ... will it be possible to upgrade it for another MXM II card in the future (I'm hoping a better card will come out in about 2 years that shares the MXM II slot ... but there's also a good chance all better cards will be MXM III) ?
The CPU's have to have the same socket and operate on the same FSB in order to be compatible ... I wonder if present (Montevina/Centrino2) tech will be terribly out of date in 2 years time for example and just what kind of cpu would it be possible to put inside.
RAM ... since the model usually ships with 3GB ... it stands to reason it can support up to 4 GB ... but is it possible the latest bios would allow the laptop to have about 8 GB (which would in fact be very useful if a 64bit OS is put on it)?
HDD ... 250 GB 5400 rpm (SATA) usually ships with the model ... I was wondering if 7200rpm hdd (SATA II) is compatible with the interface inside the laptop? -
I have an Acer Aspire 3680 with a T7600, 2GB RAM and a 320GB 7200RPM HDD. I don't find it slow at all.
I'm happy photoshopping and encoding vids.
9600M GT GDDR3 is MXM-II. The 9800M GT might be released in its 55nm avatar as MXM-II. But BIOS Support ?
T9400/T9600 are supported. I believe X9100 might be supported as well.
If the chipset lists as 8GB Max supported, there should be no limitation in the BIOS. If there is, you can contact Acer to provide a BIOS update rectifying the issue.
Any 2.5" 9.5mm SATA I/II HDD/SSD will be compatible. -

Well, I have an older 5920G and it's still rocking with Crysis and I just put Assasins Creed on the 8600m GT after 1 year of happy usage
Pretty solid. Sound still good, holds 2-3h on battery, and hasn't burned of overheating! It's like on 24h of the day (downloading) and gaming for an hour or two every 3-4 days.
Few minor things are the Acer Arcade button getting stuck, Num Lock not working and Increase brightness button stuck as well. But you can do without them, isn't it?! Well, I guess the 5930G might have solved these. My 5920 still impresses people and the gemstone design doesn't seem to fade -
Is the ram for 5930 800 MHz or 667Mhz?Thanks
-
I've got 667 MHz and P8600
