anyone have this display problem on their Acer Aspire?

Mine is an Aspire 5930G that I bought 2 years ago. Fantastic machine. P8600, Geforce 9600M GT etc...

i've been having this display problem since 6 months ago. sometimes when I'm in a middle of doing something, the screen would just blur out like a static on television. the machine is still running, i just cant see anything but static. this especially happens a lot when i'm watching DVD or playing video games. it rarely happens when im just doing office work or browsing so im guessing the GPU is somehow overworked.

This probably the artifacts you get when the graphics card is overworked or overheated.

Start with the simple things . . install something like SIW and tell us the CPU and GPU temperatures when this is happening

i update the bios and then tried to recreate the incident by watching dvd and playing 2 games at the same time. the GPU temp rises to 70 C but the display didnt blur. maybe the bios fixed it but it didnt fix this other thing:

i set the power plan to super saver. it would turn the display off after 5, go to sleep after 15, hibernate after 30. when coming back after display off, the monitor would blur, and i had to put it to sleep (Fn+ F4) to get it back. temperature was normal when it happened (60 C). It never blurred when coming back from sleep or hibernate, only from display off.

this also happened before i updated the bios but i didnt put it down because i thought it's an overheating issue. btw, i set screensaver to none.

i did an experiment last night with a screensaver (after 1 minute), went to display off (after 5 minutes), then came back from it fine (no blur). it only blurred if i didn't have screensaver. (i only did this once though. i'm going to experiment again with and without screensaver)

It might be something else rather than a gpu goiung down the drain.

I started experiencing issues with my 5930G screen just over a year ago.
The screen would either stretch itself out with some color lines appearing, or it would end up all white-grayish.
This would persist until I would open/close the lid of the laptop a few times.

What I eventually got around to doing was that I removed the plastic cover of the upper portion where the power button is, then on the left of the power button, there is a video cable that goes through the hinge into the screen.

I juggled it a bit and tried to re-seat it lightly.
Then I started up, and the image was fine (at least for a month or two before I had to repeat the procedure).

In my case (and several other people reported this same issue) the problem was happening because of frequent opening/closing of the lid itself, which in turn makes some of the video cable connections tiny bit loose (hence the re-re-seating of the cable procedure).

Try that, because it's a bit unlikely (although not impossible) the gpu is dying (especially since it's of a newer generation that supposedly eliminated the 8xxx series soldering problem).

its not about overwork or overheat or something like that. it happens because of the lcd cable. if your screen goes white, during booting to windows, or after sometime when OS is booted, its all about lcd cable. if the warranty isnt over just send it to the authorized service of Acer, and it will be changed without charging any cost to customer. this is the last and the only solution for 5930g screen goes white issue.
