i got a problem with my dvd burner ( Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P ATA Device ). I tried to burn a DVD-RW. But it just wont burn, although it does reconnizes the DVD.

I already came to some threads here, which said this particular drive has problems with DVD burning. But why do they place it in my laptop?

Hope you can help me out of this :)

Can you be a bit more specific with the problem.

What software do you use for burning?
    Does it give an error?

Yes ill try to explain it more clearly,

I used the standard Windows burn tool, and some programmes which were already installed on my pc: Windows DVD Maker, Windows Media Player, NTI Media Maker 8.

The first problem is, with the normal windows burn tool. I put the DVD in my DVD station, and they ask to first format the DVD. This doesn't work.

And with all the other programme's most of the time it stops when it's ready for burning. Sometimes my laptop rejects the dvd, like it's ready burning. But the DVD is still empty.

Hope you can help me out :)

    Sorry for the late response.

Have you tried different brand of DVD-RWs?
    Can you burn CDs/DVDs/CDRWs?

Is your drive a + and your discs also + or - and -?

I know it sounds like a stupid question but sometimes the answer really is that simple.

It's crazy really. Some old CD's I have work perfectly. Like 6 years old plus.

    Everthing is accurately read.

New CD's that are empty(blank) show as being full.
Older CD's that are full show up as blank disks.

Obviously not a CD player/Burner problem because some CD's burn perfectly..and others abort for no reason. Like a test I did yesterday.

I was having no luck with burning Data to an old "reliable" CD - RW" disk yesterday. It worked purfectly the night before as normal. Only about 20 Rewrite cycles. Next day would do ziltch.

I sent my appie out to buy a quality CD - RW disk. He purchased a genuine Verbatim CD - RW. Result: No issues whatsoever.

Can't figure out what is happening with stuff.

Are certain CD disks ageing quicker than others?. Quality issues etc. maybe?

    Anybody know?

    Cheers,
    Theo

    Theo,

I have been reading on Dutch forums and it comes down to the fact that acer just puts hasjf**bfskdjbf***fsfhisd burners in there laptops.

The people there just took it back and acer replaces them with different hardware.

I am afraid to say that I cannot help you any further with this. Take it back to acer or if that isnt possible anymore I think I will have to advise you to either play around and see which discs keep working and use those or buy a new burner.

I am sorry I can“t give you more help and support with this.
