@meanstreet: as it happens, just downloaded a movie in mkv format, and same jumpy playback. i use Media Player Classic Home Cinema so thats not the answer. i thought codecs were problem. i have a clean install on my lappy and was going to try starting with loading new ones. i have would not have thought of throttling, but will check sometime. keep us posted on your findings.
-
Not too sure about the DXVA. So I tried " Media Player Classic Home Cinema " , the video lags more than VLC.
FYI: I have Vista Home Premium x86
Also I tried to undervolt a bit, nothing is really working, but realistically I got to do some more reviewing of all the notes again and try different volts. When I try to play Street Fighter 4 and do a bench mark test it uses 117mb/512mb. I getting so pissed off I think I am planning to sell this laptop, I bet the person I bought it from got so frustrated from all of this Acer BS and sold it for this reason too. -
So strange you problem?
MPCHM should not giving you lag. Probably, you need to update your GPU(Nvidia) Driver to the latest's.
VLC Player didn't support GPU Acceleration, so, basically, I used it on low quality videos.
Yep! You just got scammed by the previous user. -
The only reason why I bought the 6920G is because I wanted to use it as a HTPC and occasional gaming. I have always bought Dells, what a shame for Acer, they really need to get a BIOS that actually does something. I wonder how much will it go for on ebay lol -
I think you would able to sell it with fair price. I am not going to sell mine, as my AS6920G have no throttle problem after my own tweak. Moreover, I need a laptop for mobility uses and of course my desktop is my workstation. -
DarkSilver i could use some help! I have just the same specifications as your AS 6920g...in RMClock in profies tab i set every FID(6x-11x) with .9250V VID,but in monitor tab it is always showing VID=.9500V. Any thoughts?
Thanks -
Some machines have similar problem too. They can't use 0.925V for Core2Duo T8100 2.1Ghz. -
Well...before this thread i couldn't play Resident evil 5 for half an hour without throttling.Funny thing...now i can play RE 5 for 4 hours in peace, but when i tried new Star Wars game(which takes 25Gb space on HDD-hilarious!) i could play "normal" for about 45 mins, and that's when s*** happens...
-
That's why the CPU and GPU might be overheated. >.<
But it doesn't matter as long as the throttle only occurs after a few hours of heavy gaming. It means OK. -
Update: Great news!!!
So I decided to do some more tweaking with undervolting, and it works !!! I am able to play Street Fighter 4 at low settings (and 1280 x 780) with 54-60 FPS. Now low settings isnt exactly bad at all, the game play is fast enough and the graphics still look pretty good.
Also I am able to play 1080p mkv files perfectly on Media Player Classic Home Cinema, but not on VLC though.
And after the undervolting, the laptop in general actually runs faster. Thanks a lot for of advice in this thread!!!
Overall, I am still not sure if I want to keep the laptop or not since I wanted something to work perfectly without any hassle. The only things that makes me want to keep it is the fancy touchpad on the left and the 5.1 sound output. For a bit more money I am confident that I could find something better with Windows 7 on it. -
So, this question is little off topic, but since everyone here has AS 6920g i would really appreciate if someone could post guide for flashing bios (or send to my email [email protected] )!
See, i still have v1.06 and i don't dare touching anything unless i know what am i doing...
thanks in advance..FANTASTIC THREAD!Very helpful! -
Well Dell can do it, so why not Acer?
http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/...009/12/02/dell-on-laptops-and-throttling.aspx -
Meanstreet, you can always just get the Windows 7 Home Premium and upgrade the 6920G yourself.
They've finally posted Win7 drivers to their download page for this model, too!
@Ecnomar: Acer's not responding because so few people have notified them about the problem that they barely know it exists! That being said, I've got something I'm looking into. -
anyone here playing nba 2k10? i cant finish a game. i always throttle during 3rd q even with undervolt.

I've been learning lots about the Dell throttling issues and I'm not too surprised that other laptops have similar problems. The above tool has had some great results on the Core i7 mobile CPUs but it should also work on the Core 2 CPUs.
It can handle setting the half (0.5) multipliers, VID, SLFM and a few other goodies. At the moment, it's an extremely cut down version of RM Clock but might be useful for some users. Post some feedback, good or bad. I just started working on this a week or so ago so there is lots of room for improvement and more features. With some feedback I should be able to make this lean little tool more useful for more users.
Thanks. -
It might just be the solution we're after, unclewebb.
I saw what your software's been able to do on the Studio XPS 16 thread (poor little Core i7s), and it'll be a testament to your skills if it works on the Gemstone Blues.
I don't have any need to test it - my laptop's undervolting so well that I haven't throttled in ages. -
For testing purposes, why doesn't a user turn up his voltage and see if this app can prevent throttling? I'm just curious. I'm not sure how many laptop manufacturers are using similar schemes to what Dell is using on many of their laptops.
-
doesn't work for my 8920G -.-
-
Can you be a little more specific than that? To write good tools I depend on feedback. There are 3 main types of CPU throttling being used on laptops as well as GPU throttling.
If you want to help with development then post some screen shots. Run a program like Prime95 and use the Small FFTs test to create some consistent load. Monitor your CPU using i7 Turbo and post a screen shot of your results so I can have a look. i7 Turbo works on Core 2 as well.
I can't afford to buy one of every laptop so the only way to get more laptops working at full speed is with testing and user feedback.
The latest version can be used to monitor for Clock Modulation when you are not trying to force it to a different value.
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/3/1794507/ThrottleStop.zip
Edit: The latest version of ThrottleStop can monitor and control two different types of clock modulation throttling now. -
Check the Definitive Guide for a good explanation on what's going on here.

any progress ? i found an acer aspire one fan speed control software if there were a software for our aspire models we can incrase the fan speed before playing games.
-
Well what worked for me was undervolting, and tweaking the registry a little bit... for a long time I thought my GPU was downclocking because msi afterburner told me it was, but then a post from DarkSilver made me realize that the CPU was downclocking first, and since my graphics card had half as much power, it was forced to downclock as well, even when I had PowerMizer disabled... So I would suggest just undervolting to get your CPU temp within (extremely) safe temps.

vKrazy, might you be referring to my post here?

Hey all !
Thx For your work about ThrottleFix, He help me a lot
I have ever a 9500M GS who think to be a 8400GS -_-'
And who have Overclock freq' by default, not by me, Rivatuner told me that...
But since some day, when i play on BFBC2 ( a game who is intensive CPU needing )
My computer Restart in random moment in the party.
By see you warning, i hope it is my AC adaptater who don't suffer .
I'm gonna try some things
Bye
EDIT - Yeah, it was the adaptater who - because my GPU was overclocked and my CPU was working - stop instantly for prevent problem'
I have just Downclock my GPU to his normal Frequency then i don't have another bug .
Bye All =)
PS: Sorry for my english, i'm French ^^, -
both of Throttle Stop And RMclock Doesn't Work in Windows 7 x64 Even with editing the file . easiest way for me it's to buy cooling pad .
-
Welcome to the forums, hemo1001.
I find it surprising that ThrottleStop isn't working on your system; I'm on Windows 7 x64, and it works just fine here.
Have you followed my guide? -
sorry i didn't see your guide before i random the voltage ID only and i didn't tick the chipset mod before, ok now the Cooling pad is off i can't set the multiplier more than 12 , i'll test it now.
Edit ... it Works ... Many Thanks For Helping ...
btw i've heard that Acer released new Bios 1.16 .... any changes? did they fix the throttling? -
Pleasure to be of help, Hemo!
Acer did indeed release a newer BIOS, but it doesn't fix the throttling problem.
To be honest, BIOS upgrades are too risky; even if they did release one that fixed the problem, I'd still use ThrottleStop. Better to have a system that throttles every now and again than a bricked system due to a bad BIOS flash. -
Dear TehSuigi, in your posts i couldn't help noticing that you perfectly undervolted your t8300...i spent hours reading different advices on how to use RMclock with this CPU, and now i'm confused. Some say that you should use Maximal performance and others Performance on demand...some say don't use superLFM others don't. Anyway, what i wanted is to ask you can you "print screen" and send me images of vital windows in your modified RMclock so i can finally know what is the best combination. I don't need to understand, i just need the values...
i too have t8300
thank you in advance!
my email : [email protected]
One more thing...i downloaded ThrottleStop v2.85 and ticked Chipset clock mod and set to 100%. My question-should i change anything else in settings or that should be it? Should "Disable turbo" be ticked, and what is it for?
Again thanks! -
Shpibrazz, please replace your image with a thumbnail: it's stretching out the formatting on the topic!
All you need to do in ThrottleStop is click the Chipset Clock mod box. Disable Turbo is more related to the Core i5/i7 CPUs, if I'm not mistaken.
Keep in mind that your T8300 might not be able to hit the same voltages as me; it may do better, it may do worse. That's just due to production variances that we can't avoid. Test stability with ORTHOS every step of the way, and you'll be fine. RMClock screenshots are uploaded into the ZIP file attached to this post.Attached Files:

Thank you for replying in such short notice! I'm familiar with the undervolting process, but this will help me very much! Thanks man!
-
I have a concern...
considering that i am using RMclock to undervolt and ThrottleStop to "stop throttle", why is it when SLFM in "ThrottleStop" is unticked the voltage in RMclock monitoring window of any FID state is 1.0v although i set it to 0.9500v? But when SLFM is ticked it changes voltage back to 0.9500v...
I don't know how to form a question out of this, so i will just let you comment... -
Pretty sure SuperLFM mode unlocks the 0.950V multiplier; otherwise, you're stuck at 1.000V. Surprisingly, I've got SuperLFM unticked in ThrottleStop, but RMClock has it activated and usable.
On regular-volted CPUs, SuperLFM Mode activates the lowest performance-state, halving the FSB resulting in a CPU speed of 800 MHz at 0.950V. On other performance states, that doesn't happen, but the 0.950V voltage remains available. -
So, i have this problem...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/470122-gpu-throttling-acer-aspire-gemstone.html
Now, i ONLY posted this post on this thread because i didn't find a solution on topic above or any other,so i'm asking for your help...and i'm desperate.
CPU isn't throttling anymore, i use ThrottleStop and RMclock for undervolting...and yes-i used PowerMizer switch and turn it completely off, but the problem is still there. I use firmware 257.21 Win7x32 nvidia drivers. Have anyone had similar problem and how he managed to solve it?
Thank you for your attention! -
So, anyone?
-
I'm afraid I haven't a clue. Sorry!
-
Thanks to user "hna" i found the solution! Anyone who has this sort of problem should read this!

Cheers! -
Can i try this method for my 8930g?
Windows 7 x64
T6400 2.00ghz -
Now you can setup the program.
when in the program go into options and make sure you 'start minimized' and 'minimize on close' and click ok. Next check the box for chipset clock mod under profile 1, then click Turn On at the bottom right of the screen.
Enjoy increased Fps and the ability to multitask more effectively on your 6920, or any other notebook with the same problem.
Also, repaste your cpu, and video card (if you have the 6920g model) with IC diamond. That alone dropped my temps greatly:
as I am typing this while running firefox with about 6 tabs open my t7500 is holding steady at 25c and I haven't seen it over 47c when playing bad company 2 for hours. Also running Furmark for around 2 hours my video card temps haven't gone over 75c. (also, to get better temps you should cut out the cloth screen that is covering the air intake vent at the bottom of the laptop, and make sure that the heat sync fins aren't clogged with dust)
My nvidia 9500m gs is idling a little hotter than I would like at 56c, but that is to be expected. (it is overclocked slightly so I can play bfbc2 with good framerate)
You still CAN undervolt your cpu for better battery life, but personally I don't see the benefit for myself at this time.
