I hav an acer aspire 6920G. It has builded-in windows vista(which in the hidden partition). It uses the hidden partition to restore default factory(format).
If I format my 6920G to windows xp or 7, could I still able to format it back to windows vista using the hidden partition???

MAYBE to Windows 7. MAYBE.
Acer's Disk-to-Disk recovery requires an Acer customized Master Boot Record (MBR).
Installing XP will wipe the MBR, and thus remove that recovery ability.
Installing Win7 as an in-place upgrade over Vista may simply edit the MBR, and not outright overwrite it.
Of course, you should burn your recovery DVDs just in case. They'll perform the same as the hidden partition in restoring your system. -
but i dunno which partition actually is the recovery partition bcz i wan to copy the file in the recovery partition to my external HDD or pendrive...
total got 4 partition...
1st is locked and hidden
2nd is C drive
3rd is D drive
4th is hidden as well but i make it visible using PTEDIT32.
the 4th partition contained WINDOWS folder, Acer deluxe thingy, common files folder and so on. Issit the 4th partition contains the windows vista installer???
and the 1st partition??? wat is inside of it? I cant open it up using PTEDIT32...
If i hav the d2d recovery dvd wif me...
how shud i use the dvd??? use f12 ??? or use f2 to change the booting sequence? -
what numbers are in PTEdit32 for partitions 1 to 4 (TYPE Box)
-
OK, slow down DarkSilver.
Partition 1 is your recovery partition. The eRecovery program will burn the contents of it to DVD. It'll be ~10GB.
Partition 4 is your Acer Arcade Instant-On partition (the thing that opens up if you turn on your laptop using the Arcade key). It has a Windows directory on it because it uses Windows XP Embedded.
To use the recovery DVD, just make sure that you can boot from the DVD drive (either F12 or F2). It'll guide you through the recovery process. -
Thanks for dropping in and clearing up the mystery partition TehSuigi

I've cleared it up a number of times.
Guys, please, use the search function. It helps. -
The search function covers a lot of stuff XD!
is better for directly asking LOL!
the for clearing the mystery....
So, i nid to burn the windows vista installer and the acer arcade thingy?
wat if i wan to unlock/visiblise the 1st partition? bcz i try to change the 1st partition type to 07 or 0C save it and restart but it cant be change... it still remain 27 and i do not c the 1st partition appear on my computer.
Jz now i check user backup option. It was too not worthy to use user backup bcz it consumes too much space. currently it said 50GB... i wonder if i install more softwares how much it wil consume LOL...
I rmb last time i could use the acer arcade thingy(located on left side of the keyboard wif adjust volume, play, stop, previous, fast forward functions) to turn on the laptop(jz rub the black bar on the left a few times and it wil switch on my laptop)
it turned on the laptop but boot like windows xp. after tat, it wil open up the acer arcade sofwarewif no other thing(not even a desktop)
but now i couldnt do tat... I rub it a few times, it did on but it boot like windows vista and logon to my desktop.
issit alrite? -
1. eRecovery burns the hidden recovery partition data to DVD. Not the Acer Arcade one.
2. Stop screwing around with the hidden partition.
3. Don't use the User Backup in eRecovery as it won't backup your recovery data. Just use Windows' own Backup and Restore for that.
4. The first time you used it is how it's supposed to go - it opens Windows XP Embedded and immediately loads Acer Arcade Deluxe. Since you can't access it again, it's possible your Master Boot Record isn't customized anymore to utilize it. Try starting the Disk-to-Disk Recovery at boot-up to see if you can still use the hidden partition. If so, then Instant-On is just broken. -
2. I alrdy stop screwing around the hidden partition after i restore to default factory and got my MBR back.(i was checking my unfunctioning mbr and the unstable system tat time so i decided to hav a look on hidden partition)
3. So, the user backup is useless. Ok.
4. I have tried the instant-on of acer arcade deluxe wif windows xp embedded. It works again after i restore my laptop to default factory. -
1. Default Factory is the one that backs up your recovery image. The other is also useful - it's all of the drivers and applications that were packaged with your system.
2-4. There ya go! -
Other than default factory DVD n application/drivers DVD...
can i use external HDD or pendrive to format my laptop?
Example:
I put my default factory n application/drivers installers in my external HDD.
and den use it to format my laptop.
I saw some of my frenz are doing something like tat.
Question 1:
So, can it be done using the external HDD as my default factory format method?
Question 2:
How do I make my external HDD can serve as windows/default factory format installer? Nid certain software or method? (i hope u can explain it detailly)
