Hello Everyone, Im just doing my summer semester and have to submit my final course work project and my laptop packed up. So i bought a Acer aspire 6920g from local newspaper listing and its turning out to be a mess for me now.

The laptop didnt have any cds and it have God knows how many viruses on it, so I thought of recovery via Alt f10- Well to do that i have to enable d2d in bios and got thru the steps and all of vista was installed and updating acers softwares (status bar showed 19 softwares to be installing on the desktop). Well once it all happened, the laptop restarted and went on Acer Erecovery grey screen and the 2 options of backup recovery and default factory recovery were not selectable. So I switched it off and went to bios and disabled d2d and again it went to the same screen of Acer Erecovery and again and again and again. It kept going to it, if i did anything in safe mode, safemode command prompt, last good config, etc etc all options selected and the same erecovery kept coming. So i read a few posts here of formating the c drive and installing vista via vista cd, which I have one and now that vista is installed, everything is fine but, on my computer properties, the description is coming as 3gb of ram instead of 4gb, its showing DELL as the computer instead of acer and I downloaded drivers like ethernet, wireless, nvidia, etc etc and none seem to be installing right. some files are seeming corrupt in the drivers, so i installed Vista sp1 via usb and same problem.

Now can someone please kind enough tell me, where can i download the original recovery cds, I still have the PQSERVICE Drive, can i use it. What all right drivers will i need as I have Vista ultimate 32bit and how can i sort of the ram detection thing. Also is there a way i can use once again the original ACER recovery thing with out having to go back again and again to the acer Erecovery thing.

Sorry if im a bit jumbled up as its 18 hrs that I have wasted my sleep and time on this laptop and its getting to my head now. Your help is much appreciated

    thanks in advance guys.

It would be best to install retail Windows Vista not OEM one and use a product key from the sticker on your laptop to activate.
Use 64bit version if you want to utilize 4GB RAM. Drivers will surely work with retail installation- don't know how Dell one was customized so it's hard to tell what the problem is.

It should have worked but since it didn't you may assume it won't work in future either.
