Hi all,
Been trolling around here for a while for great advice for my laptop but it seems that I've got a problem now.
While just doing everyday work my screen started showing a grainy/ red tint all over with slight adjustments of the screen angle, it's progressively gotten worse as now no angle at all will give the clear normal picture.
The machine itself is working fine and when I plug it into an external monitor the picture is perfect, it just seems to be occuring on the screen.
I was wondering if there was anything I could personally do to fix the problem as I don't really want to be shipping it to Acer at the moment as I'm out of the country for a while.
Any help would be appriciated!

Does the problem show on the boot/bios screen or is it only in windows , if so have you tried plugging in an external monitor to see if it is a gpu/driver or lcd fault.
-
The problem shows on the boot screen too. The black areas are red, however when plugging into an external monitor everything looks fine which I suppose it would indicate a lcd fault.

Do the lines on the lcd screen change when you move the lcd display?
-
Slightly, yes. Also if I hold the screen at a certain angle the problem dissapears entirely, however it's an awkward angle to work at. I was wondering if maybe it could be a loose connection somewhere.

The file in the link below might help you in dissembling the notebook if you are up to it.
[LINK REMOVED] -
Tinderbox, sharing service guides is still against NBR rules, as it breaks the explicit EULA contained within the guide itself.

Acer normally has service guides on it`s website , I downloaded one for my 5810T , though the have removed it now for some reason?
-
Probably because they realized it violates their own EULA?
I've never seen a service guide on the Acer downloads page. Not once. -
Thanks for the link TehSuigi. Unfortunatly as I bought the laptop in the UK (and currently am in Canada at the moment) Acer America have said they can't help.
However they did mention that it may be covered under the international traveller's warantee but they weren't too sure.
I suspect opening up the laptop and repairing it myself could be quite daunting and wondering if anyone else has been through this and how they went about resolving it. -
Check the International Traveller's Warranty (ITW) terms to see if it can be serviced.
And if you're in Canada, Acer Canada should be the one helping you out. :3 -
Bleh well the worst happened today and the screen is now totally grey at all times.
I was wondering if anyone knows the command to make the screen appear on an external monitor without doing so through the original screen so I can at least make adequate backups as Acer is taking a long time to get back to me about the problem. -
Is it possible that the cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard has been wiggled out?
That happened to me once when I was cleaning out my system; accidentally tugged the thing out, causing the screen to be all-white when the system was on, even though it worked OK on an external monitor. -
I'm pretty sure that's what has happened but not really too sure about how to fix it, or if it is simply a case of opening up the system and slotting it back in.
The laptop seems like a complicated laptop to open up. -
It's less complex than you think, but I forgot the exact steps I used when I had to fix the cable myself.
The cable connection is under the speakers and power button, on the motherboard.
Check your private messages for additional information. -
it should be a keyboard shortcut: Fn plus one of the F keys - in my 5920G it's Fn+F5 - and I have a little blue icon of two screens on F5 key.
Fn key is located between Ctrl and Windows key -
Fn+F5 here too.

Thanks for all the help and PMs.
After being shuffled around the different Acer departments I decided to give it a shot and open up the laptop. Seems it was the video cable had slipped out which was the cause of the problem which a quick shove back into place fixed. -
Hey, I was right! Glad to hear that you were able to fix the problem.

Hi Suzuki, i have this exact same problem with the same laptop, i want to check for a loose connection also, do you think you could help me with some instructions on how to get the laptop apart, i tried last week but got stuck after taking the speaker/power button compartment out and decided to put it back together, i shall pm you this also incase you dont read this thread anymore.
