Here, here - I've got the 6920-6428 model, which is identical save for a one-step slower CPU and no 802.11n support.
As much as it gives me grief, I love this little kucker.
And it somehow still fits in my Targus backpack, which was created before 16" notebooks existed (2006).
Plus, it's an excellent platform for upgrades, should I ever feel the pique...and have the cash...to do so. -
The upgrading part is great to hear about. I might consider getting an X9000 and a 9800M GTX.
-
Whoa whoa whoa, Fred. An X9000 AND a 9800M GTX?
You really want to turn those expensive parts into molten glops of silicon?
Let's not forget here, the X9000 has a higher TDP rating than regular Meroms and Penryns. Thus, more heat. It'd still be compatible (someone here already upgraded their 8920G to an X9000), but risky - the T9500 would probably be a safe bet.
And the 9800M GTX is an MXM-III card, while the Aspire 6920G can only accept up to MXM-IIs. The 9600M GT is currently the best option in that regard b/c of its GDDR3 memory and higher clock speeds. Wait for the 200 Series to come out before making any upgrades, IMHO. -
OK lol. What's the highest factory clocked processor for us then? I read it's The T9200 or 9300 but I forgot ... And what's Force Ware?
-
The highest would be the T9500 (2.6 GHz), then the T9300 (2.5 GHz).
Of course, nothing would stop you from getting the T7800, which is the Merom processor at 2.6 GHz, but why bother?
ForceWare is Nvidia's term for its graphics driver package. I'm running version 175.61, the latest for the Aspire 6920G, from Acer's European support FTP.
...of course, 174.51 worked just fine before. I just took the opportunity to upgrade when I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate. -
Oh OK well I'll look into The T9500 then. And as for Force Ware ... I have a nVidia Control Panel in my CP, is that it?
Edit: OK yes it is. I'm gonna upgrade to your version too. What was the link? -
The link is here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_6920G.html
Just pick the VGA_nVidia_9PGS_9PGE2_9EGE_v.7.15.11.17561_Vista_x32 file from the drop-down menu.
Also, make sure that you read up here on the forums on how to go from one video driver to another. It was easy for me b/c I was using a fresh install. -
Awesome. I downloaded the other 1 before I think, but I just installed it over my old 1 and it works fine now. Don't notice any dif though
-
I had a slight bump up in my 3DMark06 score, and I don't get that annoying "rundll32.exe has stopped working" message.
-
Oh I think that annoying error is gone for me now too.
